What you have on you when an emergency hits (zombie apocalypse, terrorist attack, girls gone wild, etc.) will be what keeps you alive to get to your family, other supplies, other weapons, etc. That means it's pretty important. What do you carry on you, and why? What do you think you should carry on you, but don't, and why?

Ok this is the stuff I carry every day with a photo for reference.

Starting from the left is my Benchmade Snody that I carry inverted (read upside down for pull down deployment) at the small of my back, next to it is my gerber (I think it's called an outdoorsman or something). Watch and wallet with Spyderco folding knife. Above is my chain, phone, organizer and notebook with pen. I carry my camera as well but of course I can't take a picture of that, it is a Fuji F440 4.1 Mega pixel

On the keychain I have:

Pelican L1 light
keys
leatherman micra
swiss tech pliers tool
chisel prybar
hacksaw blade
keychain screwdrivers
glass cutter
nail clippers
4-way screwdriver
10ft paracord
D-ring

Inova X5, River Rock .5 Watt LED 2AAA LED light, chapstick, wallet, Lamy aluminum fountain pen, emergency poncho, Creative Labs MP3 player / USB drive, Sanyo VI-2300 cell phone, Spyderco Calypso Jr. lightweight, Spyderco Shabaria (gen. 1). I should probably carry my zippo and some paracord and I'd be pretty satisfied.

EDIT: How could I forget my newly acquired and anodized Ti Spork? It goes everywhere with me. Sorry about the crappy pic.

I've learned to pack light these days. The way I see it, if I need to act fast, the less I have on me the better. I used to carry a 12 pound keyring and a few belt pouches... but that was just too much.

In my day to day, walking the surface of the planet existence, I carry my wallet, my keys (only keys on my keyring these days), my cell phone and two knives (one for cutting things and one for food prep).

I think I can survive any situation I encounter on the mean streets of Sylva, North Carolina with that assortment of gear.

Of course, I pack for the situation too. My daily life doesn't need me to walk around looking like Batman with 600 pouches on my belt and a janitor's sized keyring.

But when I go out in the woods hiking or camping, then I take a little more because the situation could arise that I need a little more than a folding knife. Then I'll add a few things to my belt here and there.

For extended periods, I've set up a nice little MOLLE vest rig that works well for camping... I'm of the school of thought that you should take as little in as possible so you have as little as possible to take out. That's when I play Batman with the pouches.

I've got some stuff to survive a sticky situation in my car though but still not as much as some of you carry on your keychain. There I've got about 150 feet of paracord and an old pilot's knife.

The less you carry, the less time you spend making sure it's all still there.

OFFICE SETTING:

Mnandi (blackwood)
Nuwai Qiii (soon to be replaced by my Jil 1.3W light I just bought)
Lens cleaning cloth
Neutrogena lip stuff
Verizon bluetooth phone
Halls Fruit Breezers (4 or 5)
Mont Blanc Pen and Pencil set
Hartmann wallet with NOT enough money in it
Plain white cotton hanky

THAT is what I have on me during the day AT work - more stuff in the bag that I carry back and forth from home and the office.

In my Maxpedition MPB (great bag, by the way) I have my laptop, folders, etc PLUS Leatherman ChargeTi, Inova T3, first aid kit with TONS of stuff in it. Some of the cooler items would be the Atwood Micro PryBar, Fisher Space Pen, etc.

Have another Pelican briefcase that carries the REAL goods - more lights, backup batteries, Graham Brothers custom knife, more survival items, compass, lighter, etc.

Always fun reading these items-

You feel inadaquete? I rarely even have my keys on me. I'm looking to add a decent folder, and a leatherman squirt w/o the blade and awl to my keychain (school friendly.)

I need to start carrying my wallet and keys... I feel so unprepared...

Coleman makes a key ring that is a miniature Coleman lantern . It's also a LED light !!

Sounds like psychopoop doesn't believe in being prepared. In a survival situation what you have on you is all you have got and might well mean if you live or die. The stuff on my keyring with the exception of the paracord sees daily use. I really don't think I carry that much, keys, watch, phone, organizer thing, wallet, utility knife and one for self defense. Hell all that is during the summer months when I don't even have a coat with me.

I believe in being prepared. I just don't worry too much about self defense on a day to day basis or an alien abduction. I'm 5'6" and I've survived 24 years thus far... I know how to take care of myself should the would-be assassin try to de-animate me or a little green guy stick a probe somewhere I don't want a probe stuck.

In my car I've got enough supplies and water to survive for a few days... long enough to find food or shelter or whatever. I've done plenty of survivalist camping, in all weather conditions (last winter I went out for two nights with only what I could put into pouches on my MOLLE and fashioned a nice, comfy shelter out of a few old tent halves... didn't even get too cold). I'm also pretty good at navigating by landmark (but I still keep a compass in my car).

No, I do believe in being prepared... I just don't see the need to carry more than I do in my pockets. Besides, I don't wear underwear and I don't think the world wants my pants falling down.

I just can't stand to be that weighted down with lots of gear, so I keep it light-weight as possible.

All I have on me is:
underwear
pants
shirt
socks
boots
belt
hat
chapstick
Sunglasses
Keys for house and truck
Photon II on keyring
Citizen Eco-Drive Calibre 5700 watch
wedding band
Spyderco Atlantic Salt (plain-edge)
Camillus CUDA D.Ralph EDC (154CM)

The only reason I'm carrying two knives is because I can't decide which one I want to carry today.

Happy hunting (or fishing),
Allen

Sounds like you are pretty well prepared there Alan. Those E tools rock, I still have my dads from when he was a Marine, that thing is still kicking ass. Qestion though, what were you quoting my post on, I didn't see anything?

I missed replying to the original question by [] that much. Sorry. BTW, is that old barbeque shack that has great cornbread still there ? Built a stilt home on Back Creek in Bath in '94 & used to drive over to First Union Bank & go out that street & eat lunch at that old shack .
