Endura / Delica - update - need input

Aluminum handles! I like the lil' Spyderco (Wegner) Mouse that I swapped Jeff for with a Bladeforums Native. I still think that I got the better end of the deal on that one. However, Jeff is quite the 'wheeler dealer'. Anyhow, I would like to see some H1 Blade steel used in some more models other than the Salt and Pacific. Other possible handle types I don't think were used yet for the Endura and Delica are G10 and Micarta. Anyhow, I don't know specifically what you are asking for on this matter. So I'm just throwing a bunch of ideas forward. If your looking to change the blade some possibly add some ridges to the spine like on the Salt. I've like the larger diameter holes too! Stick with the traditional clipit... don't go WiReD on us. I think thats all i can muster up right now in my quick brainstorm. Would love to see what some of the other forumies think in this matter. ;)

A full flat grind like the Military and tip up and tip down carry options would be nice. Traction ridges for thumb placement would be great. Other than that, I think the Delica and Endura are fine as is.

I think the Delica/Endura are already great models so they don't need that many changes made to them to make them perfect for their intended uses. I'm already very happy with the FRN handle material, shape and texture.

The only changes I would be interested in seeing are:

Full Flat ground blade
Larger thumb hole (14mm)
Ridges on back of opening hole for thumb placement
Ridges on the front and back of handle near the bottom
3 screw 4 position clip (same size clip as on Calypso Jr. but 4 position)
Offered in black and gray FRN

Bought my first Delica in the 80's I think, with the old plastic clip.
How about G10, or canvis Mycarta handles.
Oh yes, flat grind all the way.
A slight change in blade design, more belly.

Just my two cents.....I'm pretty happy with my Delica as is. I've got a Salt I and I don't like the large hole on it. I also don't like the wire clips. I own a Native III and I like the shape of the handle, I just don't like the way it draws from the pocket with the wire clip. So, if you decide to change the Delica, I guess my suggestions would be: A 3-d handle with a full flat-ground blade. Thanks for asking for our input, Sal.

I would like to see a more durable clip design. I had my Delica replaced recently because the FRN around the clip deformed. Perhaps an aluminum insert? Other than that I think it's a great knife. Perfect blade shape and geometry, and VG-10 rocks for not a lot of $$.

I would agree that the only thing that should be changed is a more secure clip mounting. I do like the fact that the Delica/Endura clip can be changed with a coin though. If there is any way to keep that feature, yet make the mount slightly more secure, I wouldn't want to change anything else about the Delica/Endura.

When talking about tweaks on these knives, I think forum members should try to remember their price points.

PLEASE DONT MESS WITH MY ENDURA! :grumpy:
unless your turning it into the humvee of the spyderco line
This blade is your bread and butter flagship blade. You could lose all
knives in your line and still support your families with this blade.

Make it better not cheaper..

Sal, I have never owned either, but I think there's an important adjustment that could easily (?) be made.

One of the greatest things about the Calypso Jr. is the way the choil is integrated into both the blade and the front of the handle. Design wise, I don't know how easily that would be integrated into the Delica/Endura, but if possible, it makes for a much more secure feel.

And I agree about the clip securing method...wouldn't hurt to change it.

Nitin.

Long time Endura fan here!

-Bigger Spyderhole!
-On the FRN version, put a small smooth and ever so slightly recessed spot on the handle where the clip actually makes contact with the handle. This will make for a smoother draw and keep the clip from rotating as much.
-Instead of the "barrel" clip let's try having 3 or 4 screw mounts around a lanyard hole on either side of the knife. I'd prefer a Phillips head screw that I can easily turn with an SAK :)
- Maybe some thumb ridges

Nothing too radical.

Most important-Fully flat ground blade

Less important- Can you change the pattern of grip on the FRN? The Calypso looks much better.

I don't know if the wire clip is better, since I have never used them.

A relatively secure clip that does not tear up your pants would be really nice. I have a Delica with the molded in plastic clip and I like it since I have my knife in and out a lot during a day.

I am assuming the molded clip was discarded because of breakage?

IMO, a Salt blade shape with VG-10 would just about make it right for me. I've personally stayed away from the Delica/Endura personally because the tip looks too fragile (and the 3 broken Delica tips I've seen confirms this) on the fully serrated models. The slightly blunted tip of the Salts looks much stronger.

Also, the traction grooves for the thumb on the back of the Spyderhole would be nice.

A deeper carry clip would be great.

And I don't know if this is necessary, possible, or cost-effective, but adjustable pivot so we can clean it easier.

I am worried that these great models will be spoilt. I think the hole is big enough, I like a pointy blade and I am happy with everything else too.

If it ain't broke - don't fix it.

I'm with Steven here - if it ain't broke then PLEASE don't fix it!

If you want a bigger hole and a tip like a Salt you can buy a Salt.
You want full flat grind? How about a Calypso Jr?

The Delica/Endura design is what turned me onto Spydies years ago and it still works for me. If you really have to change anything then a clip which lets the knife ride a bit deeper would be OK but that's about it :p

I have the same probleme with my endura after 5 years of use, the idea of insert seem to me great.
