Endura vs Stretch which do you prefer?

For EDC purposes I like the Endura. I ground the blade to a more pointy tip and the Endura now looked like a Military. I need pointy knives for work purposes... the Stretch, I haven't bought one yet, but I currently am planning to buy the HAP40 one but K2 on sale right now busted my wallet!!

What i dont understand is that it seems like a lot of people have the same problem with the Endura as me. Its too long and doesn't fit the hand quite right, i would think they would have fixed it long ago. Even after my mod its still not the most comfortable thing just not awkward anymore.

Edit: Maybe when i get some time ill make myself some custom wood scales for the Endura. (If there is any interest in this i might make a thread and show the process in doing that)
Chalk it up to the fact that nothing works for everyone. There may be "a lot" of people who don't like the Endura, myself among them, but the fact is that it's one of Spyderco's top selling knives and has been for over 20 years, so an even larger "lot" of people must find something about it to like.

Yeah, my experience with the two knives kind of mirrors what it seems most others here have said - the Stretch fits me like a glove, while the Endura never really has had that feel for me, either with the original FRN scales or custom micarta ones.

I'm kind of curious too as I understand sales strongly reflect the opposite preference: Endura over Stretch, by far, as Deacon noted.

I have a theory that the Stretch is rarely the first Spydie someone will get, due to the odd kind of look, and by the time they progress to having two or three Spydies, one of them will be an Endura or PM2 which pretty well fills that 3.5" blade folding knife slot if they're a casual knife buyer.

The Stretch is a superb knife, about the only suggestion I would have to improve it would be a little deeper arc in the 50/50 choil. And I think they might get more sales if they just rejigged the name back to the Spyderco Hunter or ProHunter, or something like that.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy your HAP40 Stretch, I love mine, it's one of my top three all time favourite Spydies. I'll be interested to hear how it fits you.

I agree that the old name of Hunter would be a better name and a better seller. Stretch just does not say anything meaningful.

I happen to like the Endura a lot. I have to file down that finger bump but once that is done it is a nice knife. I like how slim it rides in my front pocket sans clip and I like the dagger like blade. It is a great all purpose folder.

Casual buyer will also consider the price. When it's around, VG10 Endura always available at lower street price than Stretch. Lower price, longer blade, looks better (most will think Stretch shape funky), available in colors, Endura will win. I too used to be Endura guy. Still have them and carry one, but I have come to appreciate Stretch.

Name perhaps also plays a factor. Endura & Delica have certain meaning associated with the knife use. Stretch doesn't give any correlation with certain aspect of knife use.

I only have 1 of each now. I have big hands. I don't have quite enough room on the Stretch handle. I had another Stretch and traded it....the handle wasn't

quite long enough. I bought another Stretch in hap40 just to try the steel, I knew I shouldn't because of the handle length.

I don't carry my zdp Endura too much but, the handle fits much better.

You know Paul, I would love to see a large poll of Endura users asking if they preferred the ergonomics of the Endura 3 or the 4. I'm not talking about frn texture or anything...just the placement of the finger grooves. Personally I prefer the shape of the Pacific Salt (Endura 3).

I tried the Delica, Stretch and the Endura models side-by-side, and it was obvious that my particular hand size is a good fit for the Stretch.

My dad is the one who got me into Spyderco's with the Endura 1/clipit (late gin 1 right?) and that knife has nice ergonomics. Ive never handled a Endura 3 but it looks the same as the 1 so id go with that over the 4. Im also still planing on making some scales for one of my Spydies most likely one of my dodo's or the Endura.

Thanks

Update for anyone who cares I finally got my stretch and its awesome. It feels excellent in the hands and i cant wait to try out HAP40.

I want to know what your opinions are for what is your favorite. Right now im carrying a Delica 4 and its good but i want something bigger a recently acquired a NIB Endura 4 super blue i thought id love it but the ergo just not right for me. Im looking to trade it for a Stretch in super blue or hap40. So does the Stretch fit better in a bigger hand? I should have know that since i have had others Endura's. What are your opinions on the stretch?

I EDC a Gayle Bradley but would go Stretch as a backup. Here are several YouTube Reviews comparing them.

I have never been really interested in the Stretch because of the blade shape. I do own several Endura 4s and carry them when I want to have a bigger blade in my pocket. They are great knives but they are not a great fit for my medium size hands.

Could you post some pictures? Can anyone post pictures of the E3 and E4 side by side? Isn't the handle of the 3 the same as the Pacific Salt (I can't remember)?

I think a poll would be a great idea. I really like the Endura but that finger bump drives me nuts.
