Engraving Anyone? – Some Examples

Noticed these pieces that posted up yesterday and thought what excellent examples of engraving by several of the industry's best.
Coop, what a fantastic job you have in handling all these beautiful knives. Great photos.

I never understood the value of the POR, from a marketing stand point. But then, I'm a finance guy.

The POR seemingly appeals to people who never ask the price anyway because to them it doesn't matter. Sultans and the like.

It can be to a dealers advantage with a rare or spectacular piece.

They can offer the piece verbally at an inflated/ high price and if it doesn't sell, eventually lower the price without alerting anyone, especially the consignor or previous owner or maker.

Is that what you were looking for?

I do think it appeals to some highbrow buyer types also.

If this is turning into singing the praises of Knifelegends, allow me to add that Paul and John are extremely pleasant to deal with, as well as offering fair pricing and great service.

Oh yeah, their selection is pretty good......

:D

Josh, I was about to open this thread and I was thinking " I have GOT to post that simply incredible folder by Antonio Fogarizzu and Manrico Torcoli." And you did.

Antonio and Manrico both emailed me and wished to pay me for the large digital version. (Which is part of my business. I don't give away website work from dealers. It wouldn't be fair to me, the dealer, and especially you makers who pay me 100% for a portfolio image, to get work which was subsidized for a much lower cost.)

On this particular piece Manrico's bulino and beauty skills are mindblowing.

KL is my best client, and Paul Shindler has much influence on the market. You don't get to this point, unless you offer the very best in customer service and quality. Growth and success is the measurement.

John Hanlon is still involved, but has stepped away as a partner. He is absolutely one of the kindest and most collector-savvy men you will meet.

Yes, I am biased. Proudly so!

now that's some engraving....i can't imagine how many countless hours are spent on those blades.....coop-if i could handle half the knives you do i would sleep well at night!.....ryan

Here is a close up view of an amazing little engraving Steve Lindsay
did for me on a classic folder Tim Herman made for me and for my first
book on custom knives: "...Custom Folding Knives".

All the best,

Valerio Peli

This is a style I haven't seen otherwise. I haven't found any website for him, but some information that he is part of Creative Arts?

That pic - posted by our friend David Darom on the Tschager thread - is a great display of his work. In fact, I took notice of his work on a picture p. 159 of Knives 2007, which is the dagger with the engraved blade here:

And this one is from KnivesHome.com:

It has an "Art Nouveau" look to me.

Reinhard Tschager lives in Bolzano, Italy, and has been making knives
since 1979! He is very well known in Europe and is member of the Italian
Knifemakers Guild since 1995.
The picture of his three little knives, all of them typical of his art, is the title
page illustration in my book "The Great Collections (2007). All three knives
are from the collection of Pierluigi Peroni (Italy).
All the best,
David Darom (ddd)
