Enlightened Beckerheads - Show us your flashlights!

Speaking of flashlights, some sunovab**** seemed to think they needed my flashlight more than me, at work no less !!! :grumpy:

This puppy came in yesterday. its a Peak Eiger Cu. All the chargers, Eneloops, and 10440 batteries will cut into my knife money for a little while, but I've been needing a good single battery AAA light for EDC.
It's a bright little sucker with an energizer ultra lithium.

I did a small amount of googling without a good answer, what's up with copper lights? Is it just a style thing? Does solid copper make a flashlight better in some way? They definitely look cool, but I didnt know if there was more going on than the cool factor.

Wow, nice. Had no idea Fenix even made bike lights.

The cool factor. I like them personally.

I look at battery life mostly, at least for the low setting, since often all I really need a light for is to walk around, or see what I am doing. As far as insane lumens, I normally dont use my flashlight as a beam weapon..lol
So far O light has the best battery life on average that I have found. Especially if you shop around. 10 lumens for 90 hours or some of them 5 lumens for 100+ hours. Its not gonna blind someone but it sure will get you around in your tent, or keep you from walking off a cliff in the dark.

I currently have a few of the Ios 3 ones and also two T25 older model. I love the double a and triple a lights mainly because of the ease of finding batteries.

That's excellent battery life.

Speaking of lumens, my new ThruNite Ti3 has 120 from an AAA battery. I've been reading that you can practically double that with a lithium ion 10440 AAA, haha.

That is fantastic Dubs, I need to look at that bad boy.

Ahhh its .04 lumens, so moonlight mode. The I3s eos is only 60 hours but .5 lumens, and my model of T25 is 115 hours on 15 lumens both those durations are with standard batteries. I definitely see longer life from Lithium.
The S15 baton has 15 days duration on a double a at .5 lumens and sleeves can be added that make it a two or three battery double a which increases battery life.

There is a debate about whether the small copper lights like the Eiger benefit from the conductivity of the material helping draw heat away from the emitter more efficiently. This light when running 10440s will get very hot, very fast and while there isn't much mass and or cooling fins to dissipate the heat, some think that for the short run times this light is meant for, copper can be a plus. Of course, I'm not a metallurgist, and as I said, there is discussion of this subject on cpf where there is some disagreement.
Myself, I like the cool factor. :D

Ill give props to the 2014 fenix PD35 again :D

It can blind someone and has amazing battery life.... For an excellent price.

The fenix PD35 can produce 14 lumens for 150 hours with an 18650 battery.... Mine probably gets even more since im using a nitecore 3400mAh 18650

The results below are with a Fenix ARB-L2 battery which is 2600mAh

  • Turbo: 960 Lumens (1 hour 10 min.)
  • High: 460 Lumens (3 hours 15 min.)
  • Mid: 180 Lumens (10 hours)
  • Low: 50 Lumens (38 hours)
  • Economy: 14 Lumens (150 hours)

Don't even get me started on bike lights. I've got a NiteRider dual beam that I modified a LOT....I've done quite a bit of bike light modification and building. Too bad I don't have time to ride in the dark anymore. It was always fun blinding motorists with a look ....and a high power helmet mounted light. I'm too lazy to dig them all out and get pics, but when led's came out I dropped them into every (formerly) halogen setup I have. LiPo batteries, though....expensive and not enough charge/discharge cycles. I still use them, though, because they kick ass in the current drive equation.

From left to right:

Cabelas 700 lumen rechargeable, Surefire E2D LED Defender, Surefire Backup, and Fenix PD20 which, at one of the gatherings, I was told this is one you "can't not have". :) And I do like it a lot.

We need to talk. I've got an older NiteRider I plan to run simultaneously. One for shorter range, one for throw. Be cool to upgrade the NR a bit.

I just got a Olight S30R in. Quite literally I have done NOTHING with it except fondle it for a moment and then charge it. It's a good size, and that's about all I know about it just now... Cause I've not gotten to play with it yet.
