Give Me MORE Snow!!!
I can't get enough of it. As a kid I wanted to live in Switzerland, for the snow.
We've had about five to six inches here, over the last week or so. Finally got chance to try out my snow socks (they fit the car wheels, like chains but much easier and quicker and actually a little better I think). They worked great for getting up and down our very steep and twisty road. Even the 4x4s struggle with it (although I think most of their owners around here don't actually know how to drive, on snow or dry roads).
Did I mention I love snow???
A couple of years ago, my wife and I made naked snow angles at midnight in our garden. That was the best year we had for snow recently with about eight to ten inches flat, much more in the drifts. That stayed around for a couple of weeks too.
Our weather patterns here have changed dramatically since I was a kid though. I remember (actually, not that long ago - 15 years) the snowplough piling snow up about eight feet heigh either side of one of the roads around here. There was just room for a lane of cars in each direction between the banks. A bit like being in a giant bob sleigh track. Winters are lot milder and wetter now, rather than cold and snowy. Boo, hiss!
Last year, my wife and I both had an impromptu day off together when both our works closed for the snow. We walked to a local park and had a picnic, sat on our picnic blanket and heating up hot chocolate and Jack Daniels with a storm kettle, while the snow still fell silently in huge, feather-like flakes.
It makes me laugh when it snows around here and everyone acts like the world is ending. They can't drive, complain about the cold, the trains stop running, if it goes on for a couple of days they all start panic buying at the local shops... Hilarious!
One year It had snowed heavily over the weekend and I was going to work on Monday morning. I was the only car on the motorway for the whole 25 mile journey. It was deep in snow and had just a couple of still visible wheel tracks in from someone else earlier. It's great the fun that can be had on a wide open, empty and snow-covered motorway, with a powerful rear-wheel drive car.... and I did! I was one of only four people (out of about forty) to turn up at work and we basically had a party for a few hours, then went home.
I wish we could have more snow!
