Another strategy for distributing BF knives at low cost is to have raffles. Members could buy as many raffle tickets as they want for, say, $5 each, and then at the end of each quarter there would be a raffle to give away as many of that quarter's special knives as can be purchased for the total raffle pot.

If you raffle off the same value in knives as people spend on raffle tickets, it turns out that it's "fair" in the sense that a $5 raffle ticket for a $100 knife has a 1-in-20 (5/100) chance of winning.
