Thanks Jim!
Is Talonite THAT expensive? Forgive me cause i do not know how much it cost, $/oz.
smile.gif

O.K, it's me again....I just can't help it! These influx of ideas come crashing into my brain!.....
As for this piece, it's called.....(you guys make it out
smile.gif
). There's no need for explanation on the blade as you can see but the handle is different. Since Talonite is expensive as Jim have stated, i've decided to use Aluminium or Titanium scales with sub-hilt ground on eliminating wastage of Talonite. The sub-hilt(i love it as it gives control on the blade regardless of the size...)has protrusion on both(inner) sides so they'll meet when the scales are fit on leaving no space in between. Since i've chosen gray colour for the scales, the grooves milled in the center is anodised blue in color(my fav.). OR...better yet, the scales are made out of Mike Norris raindrop pattern damascus!(In damascus's case, no anodisasion

) The pin is covered with black lip mother of pearl.
Thank you.

$20/oz is an exaggeration
smile.gif
. But, the stuff IS expensive and can't be forged, only ground. So anything "T-shaped" means enormous amounts of waste.

All: Isn't good-grade G10 stronger than Micarta? With both Eric and I pondering lower guards and/or subhilts in the grip material we'd need to run the strongest.

Hey guys, I've got an idea!

Why don't I sweeten the pot a bit?

I will make free of charge a Concealex sheath for the winner, made to their specifications.

To that end, I'm withdrawing my design (which is unrealistic to make in Talonite anyway).

All the winner has to do is contact me once the announcement is made, and they get a FREE Waxy Concealex sheath!

Okay...here's my entry. I've been sitting on this design for about a year and I will probably never get around to making it...

The handle is of particular note because the design uses what I call a "saddle-back". This is to enhance the normal grip but also the reverse grip since it will cradle the palm. If you look closely you will also see a raven in the handle.

The blade is a tanto with a tip more like the japanese tanto (a lot of belly). I feel that the blade is tactical but can be used for hunting in a pinch.

Good luck all.

killer design "jeff J"
but did you really spend all that money to copy right it?
is it a V grind or a chisel?
thanks

Jammer, it is not necessary to pay to have the copyright. Just by putting the Copyright Jeff J 2000, he has what is called a tentative copyright. This and the fact that he has the original drawing is enough to ensure him copyright for several years.
If I remember correctly. An official copyright is different though and yes, it is quite spendy.
Nice design Jeff, I like the Raven you see in the handle

Right! *Everyone* should put "copyright (yourname) (year)" on their design.

War and Peace already has it...

What is the dimension of the blanks?

BTW, some very nice designs so far.

Since the Talonite will be supplied by the foundry, I don't think we're especially limited to a particular size. Other than "politeness" in not asking for an "extremely expensive" free knife
smile.gif
. I kept the size on mine at least somewhat moderate for that reason

Mine are on their way via snail mail as well..

You could put nacho cheese sauce on it...

Jim :

the stuff IS expensive and can't be forged

I have a forged Cobalt 6BH blade. So Steve Schwarzer probably would object to your statement.

not steel, metal, there ain't no iron in it.

Talonite does contain Iron, a maximum of 3 %.

-Cliff

There are cobolt-alloy variations that can be forged, but I seem to recall Talonite ain't one of 'em. It's not "Talonite" until after it undergoes a strange heat-treat process or something similar; do heat'n'beat on it and you won't have "Talonite" anymore
smile.gif
.

Seriously, "Talonite" as such is purely stock-removal compatible.
