EPG Knife Belt Sharpener

Hello, I have a patent on this device. I have had a patent for over 2 years. I will gladly look the other way if i get a lump sum of $30,000. my patent # is 3647 I 3245 am 3466 lie 877 ing. thanks Marek

Took me a minute to catch on there :D

I think the Loray was one of the first, and is still a highly saught after machine from what i've gathered. Enrique's is very similar to the Loray from what i can tell and is an awsome looking machine.

i just finished building one of these, myself. does'nt look as nice as Enrique's but it works just great. i think that if a couple people try these out Enrique will do well selling these. they're a total no brainer to sharpening any knife. freakin ingenious design if ya ask me. with the time, material and quality of Enriques machines.., he is selling these for a very reasonable price (imo).

Patents are only good for 19 years. Also, they are only as good as the money available for filing federal lawsuits and paying the attorneys. On something like this, I suspect your risk is very low or "zero". Even if there were a slight chance of infringement somewhere, who's going to pursue it beyond a large corporation?

I think it's a good design. Perhaps you could appease the naysayers regarding the ability to sharpen larger knives, by simply extending the length of your platen and offering an optional "scaled-up" version of the knife clamp to reduce the "sweep" angle?

I hope you sell these quickly. I will suggest your sharpener to a "knife nut" that I know. I already have a KMG, so I don't need it.

Good luck,

Mike L.

Guy's, i dont believe there is a patent on this system. the original poster who braught up a patent and posted a link to the wooden machine, is the guy who builds those. he was obviously trying to keep the market to himself with it. Enrique, unless shown a patent, build these bad ass machines and have fun.

That's exactly why I asked for more info on that patent.

I haven't seen it yet.

Enrique,
can you built a version that:

- runs on 240v current
- has an adjustable speed, to go as low as 700 rpm
- has an adjustable platen feature - I like v-bevels but want a sharpener that can do slack belt sharpening to put convex edges on machetes
- can sharpen recurves and large blades like cleavers and machetes (ie. 3" wide blades, up to 18" long)
