Equal End

Case has offered several patterns over the years; here's a few I own - an Eisenhower, a Senator, and a Cigar Jack. OH

These equal ends I use, but rarely carry, as they are heavier than I prefer in my LFP. The Demo Knives (we called them Issue Knives) were common in my first couple of decades in the ARNG (I joined in 1973) and could be had by asking for one at the supply room. I keep mine on a hook in my workshop.

Guess many (or most) of us had a Scout Knife which we carried as our only knives in our late youth and early teens. My original is gone but of course I have gathered up several replacements such as this Ulster.

Starting in the early 1980’s and continuing to nearly the end of the 1990’s I carried a Victorinox SAK as my ARNG pocketknife but I carried it in a Buck nylon pouch designed for the Bucklite 422/112 - it carried well on the web belt under a BDU jacket. The SAK’s were a step up in quality for a pocketknife compared to the Demo Knives in my opinion (much better edge retention). However, I went back to a Medium Stockman in 1998. The red SAK Huntsman came from the Fort Bragg PX in September 1986 upon my return from NATO Exercise Display Determination - 86 (I had given my previous Huntsman to an Italian Army Warrant Officer who let me take his German-built Leopard tank and crew down through their training course in Northern Italy). I bought the Camo SAK Tinker at Fort Lewis WA in 1990, when I was training at the I Corps Regional Confinement Facility (no, you could not have them behind the gate).

I bought this 1987 built Case 6345 to have a full size example of a Cattle Knife. I have never carried it as it is too clunky for an EDC - it was made during Case Knives low period of quality - love for them to bring it out of the vault today now that Case is back to producing knives closer to their mid to late 1970’s and very early 1980’s quality.
