Esee 4 stainless vs Fallkniven S1 vs??

Well, after more research I the Fallkniven seems to have the best track record. Though it not being American Made bugs me. So it may be out.

The Esee 4 Stainless may be a wild goose chase. Seems it has been coming out next year for several years now. I am also a little leary of the 440c, but what do I know. Esee has a good rep of making great knives.

I like everything I see about the Benchmade 162. Reviews seem to be hot and cold with it though. It may be my dark horse.

Going to look into the GSO 4.1 some more. I like what I see so far. It could be a contender.

I think I am going to take a pass on the Bark River.

Thanks to everyone so far for the recommendations!!

On a side note regarding fallknivens, they are high quality knives. Keep in mind that thermorun and kraton gets loose overtime and fallkniven does not offer re-handling. Also the 420J that's covering the V10 steel is soft so if you use the spine to strike Ferro rods it will get deformed.

I have the Fallkniven F1 (Fallkniven ivory mircarta handle) and it is a great knife and beautiful! I feel sure the S1 is as well.

I have the ESEE 4 in 1095 or their standard steel. Never really took a big liking to this knife. I would rather have a Kabar Becker, maybe a BK-7 which is a bigger knife. The BK-2 is in your size range, but it is a tank. I would prefer the Fallkniven over the BK-2.

I really like A-2 steel. I don't own any Bark River knives (yet), but one is in my future. I have a couple Blackjack Classics in A2, the 125 which I recommend and the 1-7 which is a bigger knife. Some don't like the large chroil of the 125, but it allows you to choke up safely on the blade for finer cutting.

You can purchase Fallknivens that Bark River has made the handles for them if you don't want Kraton. I personally prefer something more traditional myself.

Because 1095 Esee steel have a horrible reputation, and we wouldn't want to buy a knife from Scandinavia where their knives are world renowned. Also, I know 440c is so rarely used that we should all question it. Never proven it's worth. Also, Benchmade never makes good fixed blades, so you should avoid it like the plague... And I hear Bark River is all garbage. Good thing you've been so open to all the suggestions!

I completely forgot about Survive Knives. I have two coming and I think you need to think hard on those.

This is the first time I have heard of damaged spines from striking a ferro rod!
I have done it to my Fällkniven VG-10 laminates without any damages!

Now, I'm hard on my knives and my hand is allover the blade.
This means I round off the spine and make it more comfortable in use.
For the firesteel I use a cut-off metal sawblade tied to the firesteel with a string, (but mostly I use a BIC lighter :D).

Regarding the need to replace the FK rubber handles I think this isn't needed at all!
However, I do it all the time because it's fun and I like natural materials way more than Thermorun, Kraton or Micarta.

Peter at Fällkniven has told me of ten year old F1's, they receive for re-sharpening.
No reports about the handles in need to be replaced!
The knives has been sharpened and sent back to their owners for another ten years of service.

My avatar is the Fällkniven F2k rehandled in Sambar Stag and Nickelsilver.
It started out as a Thermorun factory standard and there was nothing wrong with it, but this new handle has made the knife a favorite for fishing.

Rehandling indeed takes some efforts to do, but the results has been worth it many times over!
At least for all the fun it has given me!

Availibility is another matter and Fällkniven are always stocking large numbers of every model, for imidiate delivery in all corners of the planet.

A while back I sold my Esee 4. I wanted something a bit longer and thicker and that was the S1. At first I was kind of iffy about it because of the aesthetics but after I started using it hard i saw how fantastic a knife it was. The grind is great, it whittles and splits wood like butter. The steel is great and hold a fine edge for a long while. I have hands that are glove size large so the thinner handle took some getting used to but after that it was great. What really drew me to the S1 is the weight. It weighs less than the Esee 4 yet it has a thicker and longer blade. After a few months of use I have found that the S1 is definitely not leaving my user collection any time soon.

I am not sure when the stainless Esee 4 will be available. If you want to buy now I would go with the S1.

Where do I start?

Who said Esee 1095 has a horrible reputation? If you would have read the original post you would know I am looking for a stainless. I already have knives in 1095 and if I wanted another I would most likely just buy another Becker. As far as 440c. I don't think it is as good as the G10 or the S30v. Hell It could be better with the heat treat Esee does on it. Like I said already, I dunno.

As far as not wanting to buy a Scandanavian made knife, unless Scandanavia is a town in Japan then I am not sure what knife you are talking about. It is my money and I try to spend it on US made products, especially when I have so many good choices of knives to pick from. I never even said I wouldn't buy it. I just rather have a US made product. Sue me.

I am actually the one that was asking for opinions on Benchmade. I had forgot about the Bushcrafter in my initial research and I kind of like it. It is one of the top knives I am considering now after not considering it in the first place. Hence when I called it a dark horse.

As far as Bark River being garbage. I have no idea. I have seen some bad things. I have seen some good things. My decision to take a pass on the Bark River didn't really have that much to do with the knife its self if you must know.

I am open to suggestions. I started this thread looking at primarily 2 knives. I am up to like 5-6 knives now that I am looking at. If you would have actually read some of the thread your comprehension may have been better.

And to the rest of you, thank you for all the help and suggestions.

The truth is that Fallkniven's are fine knives, that happen to be made in Japan.

Anyone who thinks that Bark River Knives are Garbage are one of the trolls who beat on this brand.

It's a hard working, family owned knife company committed to using American materials and labor to build fine cutting tools to meet the huge demand for their offerings.

There is the the no questions asked warranty that speaks for itself, and the $15 S&H charge to get a knife fully refurbished anytime you like is a game changer.

The fact that these knives are designed to cut well is why those that prefer sharpened pry-bars complain about their thin edge geometry.

If you desire a high quality American made cutting tool Bark River needs to be considered.

Am I the only one that noticed a while ago that the Cold Steel Pendleton hunters and Master Hunters are sooo similar to the Fallkniven at a fraction of the price. Yeah, I know we all are supposed to hate anything CS, but the Pendletons and Masters are seriously good knives, VG1, similar handles to the Falknivens, and reasonably. I have the standard size and mini Pendletons, and carry both together camping. Great duo.
Actually, the Fallkniven's are similar to Cold Steel - the CS Master Hunter came first.

Having said that, I've had very good experience with CS, Fallkniven, and Bark River. All make good quality knives. Do your research, and get the knife that appeals to you the most.

Smh...I hope moderators won't see this as trolling but do we really need a bark river employee to tell us about their knives? it's so biased. He mentioned fallkniven making fine knives (which they do) but they do custom handles for them so he has to market them as well.

I've done my research and I really don't want a knife in my hands knowing that people suffered in the past because of how they do business.

Please show me evidence that Big Mike is an employee of BRKT? You've already been asked by a moderator what not to discuss yet, here you are ignoring the request. Is there really any other way you think your post can be seen? Was that meant to be ironic or cynical in some way?

^ This.

Evidence? I think the evidence is pretty common sense. We all know how brkt likes to censor things that are against them.

I think you're a bit lost if you think that is true on this site.

Trolling is beyond what you are up to.

Libel would be the correct term.

As has been stated here on the Forums in the past, I have never been employed by Bark River and am not now.

Even the Bark River dealer's/distributors that I deal with have stated as much in these very forums.

Do I buy, test and use Bark River Products? Yes.

No I get payed to do so? No, I wish I could be so lucky.

Do I get called out for being a Spyderco or Benchmade fanboy? Yes.

But they make good knives too.

Funny my love for Dozier knives gets no hate, but Bob is a pretty small piece of the pie.

New members like Polamalu who come here to target a long time contributing members like myself as somehow being someones errand boy is not only insulting but down right libelis.

Show me any proof in the BS you have to offer as far as my credentials.

I'm sure that the Forum Moderators here that know me personally will attest to my involvement and contributions to the knife community, and see you for the problem member that you have made it clear that you are.

My advice to you is to stop being a hater and try to learn from the vast field of knowledge that's available to you here.

Sorry to feed the trolls, but one can only take personal attacks so long.

The fact that this continues day in and day out, even with moderator warnings, is alarming at best.

Seriously? Man....so you're infront of your computer 24/7 and being the "super moderator" at the other forums, defending brkt so much and you don't get paid? That's so sad brotha.

at the other forum you insult people that complains about brkt being junk and then you delete them, you just leave the good part...I realized that u guys like to censor things.

Is this who you really are? Smh (shaking my head) not "so much hate" like what you perceived.

I am not your "Brotha" (sic) and have never lived under a bridge.

I may me a Super Moderator elsewhere, but have never deleted a members post for any reason.

I would suggest you get your facts straight before making a fool of yourself.

I was taught that is is better to be silent and thought a fool then to speak and banish all doubt, a lesson obviously lost on you.

Enough of feeding the trolls, I apologize to my fellow forum members.

How pathetic....you made it private it's the same since people can't see it.

Sorry for this fellow members.....man.....too much estrogen for mikey.

Polamalu

You commented the rubberhandles and spines of the Fällkniven VG-10 /420j2
Laminated blades.
I answered, but instead of adressing this, You attack members personally.
Stop that and continue on topic!

I have asked You in the past also for pics of Your reprofiled Bark River GB IIII.
You ignored that too.

You really need. to lower Your attitude and start learn about cross-sectional edge geometry!
Setting Your edges right will solve many of Your issues with knives!

Regards
Mikael

I might have started it by saying we don't need marketers to tell us what to purchase. But I did not start the personal attacks.

I'm sticking with my busse battle mistress and esee junglas. Jerry, mike and jeff thank you for providing these great knives. These knives are unsupported chopping phenomenon proof.

My brkts are long gone
