ESEE folder

just saw the new ESEE folder online and i have to say i'm highly disappointed appears to be Taiwanese made/produced, AUS-8 blade steel ... fairly priced at $30.95 on knifeconnection.com...... however i was expecting USA made and much higher steel quality :grumpy: this is a huge bummer! anyone else have any thoughts or opinions on this?? let me know! (end rant)

here's the link for the knife : http://www.the-knife-connection.com/brkesee-zancudo-b-brkr1b.html

is it that hard to get this made in the US, with better quality, even if they have to raise the price a little?
made in taiwan? i'll pass. :thumbdn:

Guys, this isn't "THE" ESEE folder, its just one that was designed by Jeff and Mike. They are still working on the Izula folder, and it will be out when its out. ESEE didn't even produce this knife, they just licensed the design to BRK and they had it made.

I bought one a couple weeks back and IN MY OPINION its a darn good knife for the money.

Actually yes. And the quality is fine. Taiwan makes some mighty fine knives and is a socio-economic partner of the United States.

However, as others have mentioned, this is just a knife that Jeff & Mike™ (:D) designed for Blue Ridge, and is NOT an actual ESEE knife. The Izula folder will happen eventually, but it's no small task and will take time.

is it possible that this future esee folder might be made in the US?

The last I heard the plan is for the long-awaited Izula folder to be made in the USA right in the Rowen shop like the rest of their knives. Part of why it's taking so long is that the tooling/equipment takes a lot of capital investment and organization since folders are a good deal different to manufacture than fixed blades are.

You hit on an important point. The internet metallurgists demand that all knives be made with their latest favorite super steel, and HT to their personal specifications. In real life, all steels have trade-offs, and makers use specific steels for their envisioned user. And those might be users who want easy to sharpen knives. Large companies like Spyderco can afford to do sprit runs with special steels for niche users. Smaller companies can't do that.

The real issue is that steels like AUS8 and 1095 can be easily sharpened in the field, on a rock if need be. These are guys whose first love is survival training and going out in the wilderness for extended periods. It's hard to reconcile that with some of these super steels. I'd be happy seeing that folder in 440C, which btw they are getting comfortable with in the stainless versions of their fixed blades. Thanks for jot biting my head off; I had had little sleep before making that post.

this is very good news.

Best damn folder of its size, steel choice, and price on the market today; oh, and in case some are wondering, the quality, fit, and finish of knives made in Taiwan surpasses not only those manufactured in mainland China, but those manufactured in Japan.

I believe it. Many bicycles are manufactured in Taiwan and are solid rides, and I'm sure many knives are too, but I'm looking for an ESEE folder made in the US. I'm crossing my fingers.

I've been scouting around looking for anything mentioning a new Izula folder, but haven't found anything. When was the last new ESEE product to come out? If it's been a long time, maybe they aren't motivated for this project and are currently satisfied with what's being sold.

seems so odd for esee to make this to me at least. i love their us made offerings, but this is like a blem on the lineup...

I bought a couple just because its an Esee. I'll get the Izula folder as well when it comes out
