ESEE Izula or EDC folder?

I made both of them. Ones a Nicholson file the other is 1084 from Aldo.

Wow, well done. That looked like a file, you just don't see it very often nowadays. That's some great, sturdy steel though. The grooved flats is an awesome look.

My Izula often finds it's way into my back pocket to compliment whatever folder(s) I may have also. I made a leather slip sheath to keep it nice and thin. The included ABS sheath is thin, and allows for multiple carry options. But I prefer how the blade draws from leather vs the force required to remove from the stock sheath.

My Candiru and Izula II I also like for different reasons. But I like the optional handles on the Candiru for better control. Also leave the handles on the 2 because I think it makes a great "little big knife". But they also add thickness which makes them a bit more chunky.

So the standard Izula I think makes a great ultra thin mid sized EDC. I really like the looks of the stainless and Damascus versions, but don't have either yet. The standard 1095 steel is by no means a super steel. But it's very functional and easy to touch up.

So, yeah, while I carry a fixed blade often, I always have a folder of some sort. If I were in a different locale, the fixed may be primary with a folder as the backup option.

If circumstances allow, I think the Izula is a great addition to any collection or EDC rotation.

I wouldn't mind the "chunky" factor for the handles, I think it'd increase how comfortable it is in hand which matters more to me. I could see the Izula 2 becoming a backup blade nearly everyday for me, and seems like solid choice. That leather sheath looks like a great addition.

Add me to list of folks who love to edc a fixed blade. Like someone else posted, I also carry a mini grip or SAK along with my Izula II. I carry mine front right side horizontal.

Man, now I'm all in for at least trying this blade out. Sounds like I won't be disappointed with it. After I get my hands on the right Benchmade large Griptilian 550, this is definitely next on my list. Thanks to everyone for the replies/recommendations. Updates will come when I do get one... Which is a for sure at this point, and hopefully sooner than later.

Here is mine today, after prepping some sticks for a fire

I don't like the standard handles on the 1, and i assume the Izula 2 would be more comfortable in prolonged use. Maybe those G10 ones would be better, but would affect the slim factor for pocket carry.
If i remember right, the handles for the 1 came after the knife, it was a vote or something at the time, and they don't cover the hole in the handle, thing that bothers me when using it.
May have to do with my grip, but my pinky rests lower because of that. So i rather have it paracord wrapped. That can be a pain if used a lot too..
The Candiru with scales is a lot more comfortable, but a bit less functional with its shorter blade and sabre grind. Plus, it is only a 3 finger grip.
Still, i love mine, and carry it from time to time. The first sheath that came with it, the nylon one, was good for hiding it though.
But the izula, as designed, slim, and thin, as said above, is very easy to conceal, and will prefer it to the small fish carry, especially in forest kind situations.
I prefer neck carry with the Izula.

For my Izula II I made a belt sheath. Sorry the pic does not have the knife in it. It looks thick, but carries very well

And for the little Candiru, I made a Kydex sleeve with removable leather belt loop. This way I can just use the sleeve to wear neck style (which I never do), and just slip in back pocket like the original Izula. Or put the leather loop on (with Chicago Screws), and it become a horizontal for either right OR left carry.

I have a feeling I'll be fine with the micarta scales, but I've got some paracord handy if I feel I need to switch them out. The Candiru was a bit too small for me to consider, the Izula is about as small as I'd go if I'm being completely honest, because of it's apparent and obvious functionality through various reviews. The way yours (bflying) is situated with that belt loop is how I'd hope to carry it, if open carrying the knife. Although that kydex sleeve for neck knife carry looks really convenient for slipping in a pocket to conceal carry. That belt loop looks pretty awesome too, and very functional for unsheathing/sheathing the knife.

I like it way better. Followed this tutorial.

Is that a Kershaw in your pocket?

I have EDC'd am Izula for about 5 years. Great little knife, you'll never break this thing. I had to pry my gas hatch open, it was frozen ( 18 F) under an 1/8th inch of ice, and this is an all steel body. I'll spare the details on why but it's the only thing that was speedy enough and could get the job done and it hardly even dented the tip.

It's one handy little knife too, the blade shape, ergonomics and such are great and they did a great job with the grind. It is really a lot slicier than you'd expect for such a thick blade, especially with a reprofile. It can't cheat physics though and sooner or later you'll find something it won't cut as well as a thinner blade. I pair mine with a modest folder, SAK usually. Something thin and slicy.

It's not a bad tradeoff and it depends on what you really want out of a knife. The Izula is a good Jack of all trades, it will do 90 percent of mundane knife tasks a person could think of for an EDC, but then it will also do those 10 percent of oddball tasks you might need. Not every knife can be just as handy peeling fruit, and the next second prying and contorting to fix something that needs fixed right that second.

Edge retention is worthy of mention, it's really not going to hold a really razor sharp edge through even minorly abrasive materials. It keeps cutting just by merit of the edge geometry but the force it takes to complete cuts really grows quickly, so if you're going to be cutting cardboard all day do your hands and forearms a favor and use something else. The 440c model is slightly better in that regard, but I haven't risked putting it through as much as the carbon one and now that I have both I just use the 440c one for finer tasks and use the carbon one as a beater.

Anyway having owned, carried and used the knife for so long I could go on. I got mine before it had the g10 scales and came with the pocket clips too so I keep wanting to get a new one new all the time even though I have two already. They're so versatile in terms of ways to carry and ways to use them. My old one gets put on my belt horizontal with a teklok (and has TKC scales) , meanwhile the 440c one I carry as a neck knife (no scales) or just pop the lanyard off and pocket it.

Pics incoming...

Once it reached that point I decided to breath new life into it and mod it into an Izmuk

That's a great sign, I was hoping to put this thing through the wringer. Like I said before, some folders I carry I wouldn't want to do anything where beating it up too bad would be involved, and thought this would be a great backup on those days. Maybe after time, even consider it a primary. It'd be really nice to have something I feel comfortable performing those "10%" tasks with, and I'll say it again, this seems like a great fit for what I'm looking for. Cool mod, too. Never seen that done.

I tried an Izula as an EDC as opposed to a folder just recently....

I can't say enough good things about the knife, and I am sure that it works for many people, just didn't work for me.

I just find it much simpler, or maybe just habitual, having a folder clipped to my pocket.

The folder in my pocket from the pic is the ZT 350. It was a horrible decision because it became the first of over a dozen ZT's after. I became an instant fan, and the newer models just keep getting better.
