I put this kit together using the Max notebook cover.

Nice small kit. Well done :) I think I would throw a fishing hook in with the safety pin.

But putting it all in the Notebook cover is a really great idea... now I have to dig out mine and give it a try :)

There is a complete fishing kit (line, sinkers, swivels, and hooks) in the tube with the safety pins ;)

I've got a Streamlight Microstream on the way that I'll be adding to the kit.

Why dont you like the nano striker? I have been looking to pick one up but not really a fan of the price tag.

email me ?
to me the nano striker is not worth the cost ,small ferro rod ,smaller striker, only plus is the housing and keeping all pieces toether . to me deal or dud ... I'd go dud just b/c of cash ratio for what you get is not as good as the esee firekit or a standard LMF rod IMO

The only advantage of the nano is it's compact size. Price sucks. The ESEE firekit is MUCH easier to use. I'm going to eventually attach a firekit to one of the zipper pulls.

My go-to fire gear are LMF Ferro Rods, Doan's, BSA Hot Spark (smallest), ESEE Mischmetal, and K & M (Overlength) Matchcases with REI Matches in them. That's not counting tinder. :D

Nano stuff, the matchsafe/matchcase, too, too expensive for what they are. They're neat, but too much for what you get. The K & M's lid has the compass Suunto uses for their Clipper Model as well, so you are really getting a great deal for the cost of the Nano Matchsafe +/- $1.50.

The more I see the 5 SERE, the more I love it.

Heres my take on the ESEE 5 kit.

I took this one backpacking over thanksgiving. At one point I left all my gear at my campsite besides this and my Glock and went looking for a suitable branch for a walking stick. I was definitely glad to have the little saw because I was able to quietly acquire said stick from a pile of deadfall. There were some other campers nearby and I didn't want to disturb them at night by hacking away with my 5.

Yeah, I think that is going to be the next one and maybe the last one for a while. It's not so large that people will go bananners around it when they see it on a belt.

5.11 chest rig, with twin 5.11 medic pouches. FAK cross logo is removed on one of the pouches, designating it for utility gear. The entire kit is designed for woods wandering, to have all the essentials ON ME at all times, easy to access and use. I can ditch my pack (say falling into a river) but still have shelter, FAK, food, firekit, knifes, light, navigation, signalling etc with me. Each pouch has TWO internal zippered poclets, so even if i need to move quickly while the pouch is open, nothing gets lost.

contents photos coming soon.

I call it "M.O.O.B.S." :D (Modular Organized Operations Bearing System) :D

You're just as sexy as ever. I was playing with your fatwood in October you know. :D

I'm glad to see you are back around and on the sane side of the universe.

I just started building mine around the 5 like the pic shown above. I have the lil Izula kit in there (minus izula), water proof matches and Esee card. Not near complete, getting great ideas from this thread. Thanks.
