Esee knives vs gso survive?

ESEE has a big following, but I really don't understand it beyond the warranty. 1095 is about as cheap as steels come and it seems like everyone complains about the handle shapes on ESEE knives.

So everyone you have ever encountered complains about the Esee knives handles? What is your experience with Esee knives?

No one complains about the Junglas handle.
Or the rest of the knife either.
The Junglas is awesome.

Exactly.

ESEE also just introduced the choilless 3 and 4 with ergos that look a lot better. Not a big ESEE fan, but I might pick one of those up when the price is right.

No. I said it "seems like everyone complains about ESEE handles". I had hoped the "seems like" would allow a human reader to understand that I wasn't actually making a universal statement, but speaking roundly. Are you a computer program or read English as a second language?

So, for the expert programs and other intelligences "reading" this thread:
I have noted that the number of people who refer to the less than ergonomic shape of some of ESEE's knife handles in public forums appears to exceed the number of people that are complimentary about their shape.

Which means that some people may like all ESEE handles, and some ESEE handles might not receive the same reviews as other models, like the Junglas.

The ESEE 6 I briefly owned reflected this impression. It felt like holding a child's wood block. I can't recall ever handling a fixed blade knife who's handle felt so blocky, including simple Old Hickory kitchen knives.

My apologies for the imprecision of my language. I hope I've cleared up any confusion that some posters were having such trouble understanding that they couldn't post about the topic.

I understand you're being a condescending ass. :thumbdn:

Do you also understand that I have my own personal troll that CONSTANTLY posts some stupid jab about me in what "seems like every" damn thread I post in?

No one was unclear about what my post meant. Please.

Funny, I was thinking the same thing about you...

Go ahead and report it if you feel like it.
I don't care.

But you sure do get thin-shinned and overly opinionated any time someone doesn't think the exact same thing you do, and start up with snarky insults.
Just as you did in this thread.

As to the actual thread topic, both companies put out a quality product.

As a fellow argumentative know-it-all, I was hoping you'd appreciate the difference between a taking a position/having a little debate and drive-by trolling.

When I am reminded by Mods to "not feed the troll", it's pretty clear that no reporting is necessary or useful. I just get sick of reading all the off topic posts going after my person - not my opinions or reason.

My goodness. You said everyone seems to dislike the esee handles and I questioned that statement. I know plenty that are fine with them. I my self do not like all of them but some I do. I also asked your experience on the subject. no need ot go off the rails.

Not a fan of either the esee 4 or 6 handle shapes.

See^ it isn't that hard. Bodog and I don't like each-other but I know why he has this opinion and I respect it. I have seen his posts on the subject. His criticisms are valid in my mind because he explained them with evidence based on his experiences, even pictures of an Esee 4 if my memory is correct.

Some are.

The bold^. What are you doing here then? You said your bit. You could have answered my question with your experience but now we are here and you are doing this. Wow.

Who, exactly, was unclear on what my first post meant, that made your trolling post necessary for clarification?

If you want to know the answer to a question, I'll bet you can ask that question without the sort of constant commentary about ME that you engage in. Please cut it out.

Even considering the added cost of the TKC scales for an Esee the price difference is still quite different so thus are the expectations. But the observations of the company remain. I love my Esee 6 and 4 with the TKC scales!

TKC jumped on the ESEE wagon way back when..
He has been a good partner for them and the customers.

Absolutely. I've had them for the 3,4,5/6. For my hand size they don't seem necessary for the 3 with its use and only help elongate the 4 considering its blade length and thickness. If I planned to use the 5 for more than jumping out of helicopters I don't own or ride in they would be great and since they are the same as the 6 I can swap them if needed. I have not tried them on the Junglas but since the Junglas has the best stock Esee scales I have used in my experience they don't seem necessary.

Both companies make great knives but ESEE is a larger production style company with a lot of years under their belt and Survive! is a small craft style knife company that is still fairly new.
If you can swing it, try to get knives from both companies.
I haven't owned a Survive that wasn't uncomfortable but I have had issues with almost every ESEE other than the Junglas. That knife is probably one of the most comfortable choppers on the market. Adding TKC scales to the other ESEE's is highly recommended obviously.
Steel wise, 3v and 20cv will stay sharper, and be more resistant to corrosion than 1095 but sharpening those two steels can be a pain compared to 1095.

Diamond is the answer.

I have never found ease of sharpening to be a reason to choose one steel over another. The last couple months I bought several knives from Spartan. Edges were way too thick. Nothing a bit of time on the old Norton stone couldn't fix!

There really is no comparison, it's really like apples and oranges as far as the knives go.

That said I would go with Survive personally.

And yes I have a Survive GSO 4.1 in M390.

I have one too in M390. Now that I know you have one, I'm glad I have mine even more. M390 is my #1 favorite steel.

Cray, solid customer service is a FEATURE in a knife that some of us value when we make our choices.

It can sometimes even overshadow the choice of knife steel.

I'd get a quality 1095 piece that was backed up 100% over a super steel knife with unresolvable issues.

I don't think many folks could take issue with your opinion.
