That is a great way to spend time outside. Do you carry your kindling with you from home? I don't drink hot drinks but you kinda make me want to go out and boil water for no reasonAfter loads of rain last couple of days I quickly went out for an outdoors coffee with the Kelly Kettle and the Esee 6
Made some kindling and a featherstick to light with my ferrorod

transfering the flame to tinder/kindling filled base of the kettle

Now I just wait patiently a put in an extra stick every now and then, love it when flames shoot out of the chimney

And we have a boil, kettle is whistling loud

Now, time to enjoy my coffee

Thanks. Today I brought my kindling from home. Just splitting the final parts and make some curls on the spot. Depends a bit on how much time I have to spend on my coffee ... and the weather. That is a great way to spend time outside. Do you carry your kindling with you from home? I did some research on your kettle when I first saw it, It's a great design. You make good use of yours. Keep posting pictures of it with your ESEE's mate. I'll find an excuse to buy it one dayThanks. Today I brought my kindling from home. Just splitting the final parts and make some curls on the spot. With the Kelly kettle you can store enough kindling in the kettle's chimney to get your water to boil and the some...
My $.02…The Sencillo.. is it worth waiting for the Magnacut version, or will A2 «suffice». Do I need diamonds etc to sharpen a MC blade, or will the original edge pro stones and a sharpmaker do?
My $.02…
I really like A2 steel, in fact, it is one of my favorites for an outdoor knife. I have not used ESEE’s A2 (White River in this case) but I trust them and have never been disappointed in anything of theirs. They don’t release stuff that hasn’t been field tested and that’s one of the reasons I love their stuff. And I have loads of ESEE knives.
I have never used Magnacut and I don’t have any plans of picking up anything in this steel. I’m sure it’s probably a great steel and I imagine that ESEE would do a great job with it. I just don’t have any need or desire for it. A2 would be all I would ever want or need, honestly 1095 is all I really need.
Only you know if Magnacut is something you want/need and is worth waiting for and, I’m assuming, at a higher price point. If you need the extra stainless qualities or whatever else Magnacut offers then I would wait. But, if you don’t care about that A2 is a fine choice.
I have an LT Wright knife in A2 tool steel that I sharpened to a 24 degree angle (12 degrees per side) and have never chipped it and only had one minor edge roll, which was my fault. Hopefully that gives you an idea of the toughnessStainless is nice, but it’s ease of sharpening and toughness I’m most interested in. When I say toughness, I’m thinking of resistance to chipping with a thin blade and low angle
It does, thank you. And while stainless is nice, I really do like a patina!I have an LT Wright knife in A2 tool steel that I sharpened to a 24 degree angle (12 degrees per side) and have never chipped it and only had one minor edge roll, which was my fault.
