You'll love them! They're my go-to knives in the kitchen. When rummage sale season comes along, most of my other kitchen knives are heading out the door.

So...will you be the first to make kydex sheaths for them? :D

Thats hilarious!

I picked up a set for me and a set for the parents house at Ethan's place. They are awesome, however, my mom is scared to use them cause they are SHARP. My sister uses them more.

Thats great man! im thinking of gettin my wife the set for xmas. i was thinking of getting her a new version of the joy of cooking with the kitchen knives. not only will she love them in the kitchen but it will give me more oppurtunity to talk to her about becker knives.

Right now she is about tired of hearing about my new knife this, my new knife that, every week but if she has her own Becker knives she could have a reason to share in the conversation :)

Buy her a 14 then too

I've been looking at those too. My wife is currently using a set I bought her before the Beckers came out. I'll see if I can get her to switch. :)

lol...Let me take you on a journey...

great knives, I love and use the heck out of the two bigger ones. One of the nice things about starting completely over this year was that moment when I was standing in my new kitchen, thinking to myself "Damn, I don't have any kitchen knives. What am I going to dOH WAIT" haha

I was thinking about a set also - for my wife for Christmas. Just did a google search for them and learned they are actually Essee's and made in Taiwan. No problem for me that they are Essee's but I was surprised about the Taiwan part. Any thoughts from anyone about the Taiwan part???

Jeff explained the Taiwan part pretty well over on his forum. Basically, it comes down to cost and availability of manufacturers. You just can't get a set like that made in the USA right now. Taiwan is a free country, so I'm relatively ok with it being made there. It is also backed by the ESEE anything-goes warranty, and for a set at this price, that's unheard of.

Additionally, they are German steel. You arent getting a mystery steel. I would say you should have zero trepidation about purchasing these blades.

I may end up getting my wife a set sometime. She would probably rather have the BK5 though. Bladite, surprised the new Becker kitchen knife series is not in the Becker Blade Database yet.

Taiwan is only a free country if China is a free country.
Taiwan has been politically part of China for some years now. Free'er, perhaps.
My understanding is that Taiwan is so economically successful that the Chinese gov't has been hesitant to mess with it too much. I also am led to understand that the Taiwanese may not identify very closely with the mainland...

double additionally, the intellectual property is not a taiwanese thing, it's USA baby. the taiwanese happen to be a contractor that's making them to exact spec under strict supervision, yaddah yaddah yaddah.

for some, that's enough. for other's, that's still heresy ;) whatever. to my mind, it's not a big deal, since without the USA side of things driving the design and so on, it would NOT have happened at all. plus, there's probably no where else in the world to have them made as reasonably or as cost effectively, so again, they would not otherwise happen.

best part is: they're quality. they are not "chinese junk". best materials + best factory to make them in for the price == product for you

if they could make them at ALL in the USA, they'd probably consider it regardless of price, but afaik, such places are few and far between, and QUITE busy, so that's a consideration too...

Good score with the wife. I used my kitchen set tonight.

I tried to get them made stateside.....No takers.......The good news is that they are extremely well made fom fine steel and they got ALL of it the way I wanted it......Fantastic edge geometry, good heat treat, great balance.........I am real happy with them......The ESSE is great on warranty stuff.........I use 'em every day and have not yet wanted any improvements.....Try 'em you'll like 'em..........

Glad to see you on, Ethan. The last three threads I read have your comment last. Any chance on a base plastic that's blue, not red? Or are you saving that color for the upgraded steel version, to start a rumor. Is that thumb rest on the front of the handle as comfortable as it looks? When are the rest coming out - paring knife, any others? This is a lot more fun than wasting time looking at election returns. I'm not going to look until tomorrow.
