Ethan's kitchen set

Are the kitchen knives available individually, or do you have to order them as a whole set?

So far I've only seen the whole set and for right now its still a bit out of my budget.

And I'm interested to hear that there might be a second set of them coming out. Thats great news :).
Only as a set at this time. Honestly though, the price of the set is cheaper than the cost of one chef's knife. It will last you a LONG time too!

This is a great set of kitchen knives at a fantastic price. Both my wife and I enjoy using them. Every design element and feature serves a practical purpose - for example, the bright orange sections of the handle make each knife visible amidst the mess and chaos of a working kitchen, especially when hiding in a sink full of soapy water. Safety First! Here's a photo I made of the set:

I have had my set since they were first released. I love them. I retired my other kitchen knives and use these exclusively. Several friends and relatives have bought sets or asked for a set for Christmas. I am anxiously awaiting the second set.

i'm going to *REQUIRE* a knife holder for these...

managed to obtain several second hand "butchers block", but none of them have slots wide enough to accommodate the massive blades :>

heh

i'm thinking "voodoo" knife block, might have to make one, but not until i have an idea of the others coming.

I have mine mounted inside my cabinet door on a magnetic strip. It is possibly the best compromise I could come up with.

I'm still loving my set. I'm ready for the next edition now.

OMG, Marantz....I did not mean any political spin there.......Just that there are sooooo many black handled kitchen knives.....As for the steel, I have a lot of high end kitchen blades and with the excepton of a couple of customs I seem to sharpen them all at similar intervals......Strictly anecdotal mind, but I have been at this kitchen thing a while and I noticed this when I was using a VG10 blade a lot alongside one that had a different secret squirrel steel and a knife made from 1.4116 (S30v seems the exception To my rule by the way) and was sore amazed.......I can not tell you why........

The 1.4116 seems pretty agressive and it holds an edge....... I don't know at this point how much would be gained......I DO have a high end line in mind but these guys may have me rethinking that project......I reached for the big santuko in that line almost ALL the time and I really love that knife.........I mean I REALLY, REALLY love that knife but I use the ESSE production knives 90% of the time now........But, I am fickle about kitchen blades .....LOL

Does this help???????.....

You know what I HATE?! The fact that there are kitchen sets out there that are very high end and some that are very low end, but few full sets that are in the middle.

I am considering these. Mr. Becker, some of the Swedish Sandvik 14C28N would be excellent in the kitchen...if ever there is another option :)

The only reason I am not completely sold is because I would like more knives (not for the price), just more knives period, of course that comes with a higher price.

I'm very interested in a set of these. I'd also love to see some Sandvik steel on a set of reasonably priced knives available in the U.S. And tempered a little harder than most as well. I like the Victorinox/Forschner's but it's too soft for my tastes. I'm concerned that the steel in these will also be too soft. But I'm still going give them a try!

The Sandvik stuff is pretty good steel........The 1.4116 is in the same performance range.......these blades are ground fairly thin on purpose as a narrow blade profile works best for veggie prep which is the majority of kitchen knife work......I have some excellent Japanese blades that are very hard and very thin and a real pleasure to use but, if they are not babied they get nasty chips......If you get a blade much harder than ours you will get chipping for sure........Trade offs are a bitch........traditionally German kitchen knives tend to Rockwell
in the low to mid fifties.......we are in the high fifties...... This is the best compromise I know of.......As Americans we do not baby we do not baby our tools as a general rule......Not a complaint, just a fact.......

Hope this helps.....

My wife loves these knives and says she likes the box they come in, so there spot in the kitchen is on top of the fridge inside there warm comfy box when not being used. I use them all the time, they get washed and hand dried then back in the box. They are to nice to hang out in the sink or dishwasher.

Same here, for now. Like Bladite, I'm waiting to see what the next set contains before I build a block.

Seems I waited too long. The online vendors I frequent are out of stock and have been for sometime now.

Call Dale at the knife connection. He has them and gets them out RIDICULOUSLY quick. I've ordered 4 or 5 sets from him and the only time it's taken longer than 2 days to get them to me is when I order on a Saturday night. Just cause no one to ship on Sunday I think.
