Ethan's kitchen set

I could not agree more that they are great knives. Also, Ethan is telling the truth about what knives he uses in his kitchen. I was out at the house the other day and there they were in a wood rack on his counter (I was checking it out as I need to find a way to store my wife's set and not in the drawer). My wife loves her set of them too.

Good score with the wife. I used my kitchen set tonight.

Those look comfy and effective. Watch the groceries tremble with fear...

Hey Marantz....

You sir are smarter than I........I will be up until somebody cries uncle.....LOL.......The book has a lot of red on it's cover and gray is not black......LOL...... Any "meanings" have been hidden from me.....LLOL.......Second set has some different blade shapes and will follow soon, I hope......

Thanks for the reply, Ethan, even if I don't understand part of it. My question on the base color of the knives is because my kitchen is blue themed, not my politics. My set of Corelle, for instance, is Old Towne Blue, my silicone hot pads are royal blue, my Orca silicone mitts are various shades of blue. Just not a red kind of guy. Any chance of better steel for the kitchen knives? Although we always want something better, it appears that ESEE has gotten their Taiwanese subcontractor to do a good job on heat treat, RC 57 is harder than most of the big name German knives.

OMG, Marantz....I did not mean any political spin there.......Just that there are sooooo many black handled kitchen knives.....As for the steel, I have a lot of high end kitchen blades and with the excepton of a couple of customs I seem to sharpen them all at similar intervals......Strictly anecdotal mind, but I have been at this kitchen thing a while and I noticed this when I was using a VG10 blade a lot alongside one that had a different secret squirrel steel and a knife made from 1.4116 (S30v seems the exception To my rule by the way) and was sore amazed.......I can not tell you why........

The 1.4116 seems pretty agressive and it holds an edge....... I don't know at this point how much would be gained......I DO have a high end line in mind but these guys may have me rethinking that project......I reached for the big santuko in that line almost ALL the time and I really love that knife.........I mean I REALLY, REALLY love that knife but I use the ESSE production knives 90% of the time now........But, I am fickle about kitchen blades .....LOL

Does this help???????.....

Ethan

That bottom blade looks like it would make a great hunting knife. I'd likely use it more times than not. The wife would always pick up the top blade when cutting veggies.

Oh ya so I ordered the set and should be getting them soon, now I guess I gotta cook something or have the wifey cook something, hehehe

I was thinking about a set also - for my wife for Christmas. Just did a google search for them and learned they are actually Essee's and made in Taiwan. No problem for me that they are Essee's but I was surprised about the Taiwan part. Any thoughts from anyone about the Taiwan part???

The only problem with the Taiwan part is that while living in Taiwan, I have trouble finding the knife set in Taiwan.

Taiwan is only a free country if China is a free country.
Taiwan has been politically part of China for some years now. Free'er, perhaps.
My understanding is that Taiwan is so economically successful that the Chinese gov't has been hesitant to mess with it too much. I also am led to understand that the Taiwanese may not identify very closely with the mainland...

OK..quick and short version..
Taiwan has been an independent country for just over a hundred years.
Was under martial law from end of WWII to around the 70s.
Changed to a democracy country fund wanting with two major parties slugging it out and depleting the countries resources, while China is a communist country.
Most aged 50 or above still live in the past of the economical up rise during the 80s and refuse to give up any and all power and resource.
We earn a really $itty wage, around 70% of the people earning of 9106.7 USD annum (on average) while having craptastic long work hours. Forbies has done a page about this recently.
By history China should belong to us, but they ended up with the bigger stick after WWII, hence the louder voice over anything.

so guess what I got in the mail today? hehehe

I can't wait to use them for Thanksgiving Dinner!!!

Awesome! Enjoy the heck out of them. They really are fantastic knives.

Are there any plans for an 8" or 10" chefs knife? Maybe one that would sell as an individual knife rather than a set? These look like they have a nice feel to them and I'd love to try out an 8" or 10" chefs knife in this steel and design.

I think if my wife asked if I wanted kitchen knives I would say ya, they are sold individually though, I need a Bk3,4, and 5 (manly kitchen knives haha). My wife is a stay at home mom though soooo coupon book of favors for me:D...That gets me thinking maybe I could get her some Beckers for the kitchen:thumbup:, our Cutcos are not a matching set I would have to make a wood block to make it look like official kitchen knives...

I can't wait to use them for Thanksgiving Dinner!!!

I thought that we were using BK-9s for Thanksgiving Dinner. I guess I can use both if my wife will let me get my hands on "her" knives.

So...will you be the first to make kydex sheaths for them? :D
Methinks we need a person that has the knowledge and experience to make a kydex block for the kitchen knives... One of the kydex benders wanna try? :D:D:D
I'm thinking that the sales of these as well as the sales of "The Joy of Cooking" will go up as us Becker forumites are gift shopping for the significant others (or ourselves)
We have an older copy of TJOC in regular use at our house. Maybe I need to update it with a new copy.

Are the kitchen knives available individually, or do you have to order them as a whole set?

So far I've only seen the whole set and for right now its still a bit out of my budget.

And I'm interested to hear that there might be a second set of them coming out. Thats great news :).
