Ethnic/Historic Blades

Dave, I was looking at those CS Barongs just to have an example of the work. Actually ordered one from a distributor but they were out so I squandered the money on something HI. Seems like pretty decent work.

The only knock on the CS barongs I have heard is that they are much heavier than the "real thing" ... kinda like an AK vs a Folly. I've never heard a bad thing about their construction quality.

This is not an unusual trait in CS products, IMO. In an effort to make their swords and such less prone to failure in the hands of overenthusiastic and underexperienced users, they tend to overbuild them a bit. The most common complaint most folks have about their weapons is that they're heavier than they were historically.

The barong is not bad, as such things go. I haven't handled enough of the real thing to cast a critical eye on it but it's a decent cutter. Of course, I'm one of the overenthusiastic and underexperienced users mentioned above so any problems I may have with it are probably my doing. :)

I'll know more after I've worked it more.

That's a new one on me. But the cast handle looks similar to the Tiboli and Bagobo pieces that you sell on Ebay. Interesting piece. Is it newly made?

Way to go Sarge : ) BTW, the second one down in the pic looks almpst identical to one I inherited.

Just shooting in the dark, but it looks somewhat like an 18th Century French fur trade era piece.
