I am looking for any additional information you guys and girls may have on the EU-17-Know she sports a 7 inch blade and is approximately .270 thick, Have heard they were produced in 2004 in Very Limited quantities-any additional Information you can provide would be welcomed-Thanks

Never had on, always was curious to try one or the magnum version. Sweet looking ergo variants for sure.

Another Forum Member advised me that only 30 of these were released? True? False?

Search old threads started by Jerry. It was before my time, but I seem to recall reading them, and it may be that Jerry did mention quantity, which is unusual. No one outside the Shop really knows what EU-17 means, although there was much speculation.

Love the EU handle...

I remember it as "Extraction-Unit" and very limited supply as Guy mentioned rare that a production number was mentioned.

I researched pretty hard after buyin mine, wasn't a lot out there, I will share what I did find when I get to the office today.

Here is some more Info!!

The 7" Blade length falls right in between the SHE and the NOE . . .. Long clipped point for excellent thrusting. . . topside finger grooves for upside down gripping and rearward palm swell for aid in chopping and extending reach. . . . Fatter than 1/4". . . Thinner than 5/16" . . .. Full height grind. . . . .Great chopper, slicer, slasher, thruster, . . . etc. . .

This particular knife was designed from a boat load of input from the units that carry it. It is unusual in so far as we have never made this shape handle on any other blade before.

We do not have permission to give out any info about the teams that carry these.

From what I understand the standard (7 inch) was released first, late in 2004. It was followed by the Magnum version in late October of 2004:

From the information in that post it says there were only 28 released.

The mini (6 inch) was released last in April of 2005. I can't find it now but am pretty sure I read that 31 of those were made and released.

I will say the handle is one of the most comfortable of any Busse I own. After handling this I am even more excited about some of the new ergo stuff I have on order.

I could be wrong, but I believe Evacuation Unit

Did Jerry ever confirm that it was 'Evacuation Unit', or did that come from speculation? I seem to remember folks guessing that the name referred to the 17 members of the European Union, but others said that was wrong.

I know what "EU" stands for...

but when I tell you, I am under orders to "Eliminate U" after disclosure  ;):p

Yes, it is a very comfortable knife all around. Yes, there are very few of them existence. No, I can not tell you any more about them.

I had an EU - 17 several years back and sold it. Mine was new and unused and was different from the rest of the pack in that it had a black handle from Busse instead of the brown handle as pictured above. I'm pretty sure mine was #5. I inquired about the different handle color on mine and was told that mine was the only one out of the group that had that black handle. I don't remember who I sold it to, but it's out there somewhere.
