Ever been satisfied with a factory edge?

i have a few Rough Rider knives, all of them came out of box shaving sharp, and hold that edge well

Super sharp factory edges that I have encountered: Spyderco, ESEE, Mora, Cold Steel.

All of my Kershaws come sharp, maybe not scarey sharp but good enough to put in the knife roll. Case knives seem to always have a wire edge that needs to be removed. my Machax wouldn't cut warm butter if you heated the blade 1st. My handmade knives are super sharp but I can still improve on the edges a wee bit. I have two Spydercos and both are sharp out of the box, but serrated blades usually are as a rule.

My Spydie Gayle Bradley was the sharpest out of box knife. Didn't need to, but I refined the edge anyway.

I am more often than not, IME, Queen and Case could use some work on their factory edges, but most of the others are fine.

IME, the one company that I have never had a knife from that wasn't hair popping from the box, like them or not, is Cold Steel.

Benchmades are normally fine, as well as Buck. SOG to although my recent $20.00 Magnadot holiday special was kinda "toothy" and needed a little smoothing out.

All of my Case knives came with a wire edge on them, but once I removed the wire edges they were very very sharp. I think if Case used a steel that isn't prone to wire edges, they'd be hands down the best factory edges ever.

Most of the spydercos and benchmades I have owned came sharp, one thing I have found is a lot of customs come dull. I usually touch up my knives right away, but I think custom makers need to send their products out sharp!

Of the ones I have purchased, a couple Queen knives that had poor factory edges. Case edges have been consistantly better. KaBar have been so so.

Have been very satisfied with Spyderco, SOG, GEC, Blackjack, ESEE, and Falkniven edges as they came out of the box.

I wonder, have you ever purchased a knife (a user, not a safe queen) which had a factory edge up to your standards?

Yes! A couple years ago I ordered a new, standard, no-frills, stainless-steel (I do not know the exact alloy) Case Trapper from a popular retailer. Mostly because I've always admired the design and felt I should own one just to tear apart and examine the way it's built. It cost me less than $30 shipped.

I was pleasantly surprised by the overall fit and finish, and also impressed with the edges on both blades. They were not highly polished, but both were able to shave and cut light paper right out of the box.

I was similarly pleased with my Queen MountainMan lockback in D2 (as I recall it cost me something on the order of $80 or 90, shipped from a different retailer) a couple years before that. I've heard some horror stories about their factory edges; apparently I got lucky. Mine was ready to go to work right out of the box.

I have been mostly satisfied with the factory edges for the most part. Spyderco, ZT, and Kershaw have good edges that just need a little stropping. However when it gets dull or I do not like the edge, I will sharpen them up.

Bought one of those also. Very pleased. I think the edge thing relates more to their less costly lines.

Yes, several times - here's the list of knives that I've yet to sharpen since their factory edge was so good (in descending order of sharpness):
- Spydie Manix 2 154CM hollow ground (tree-topped hairs off my arm OOB)
- Al Mar SERE 2000 VG-10
- Cold Steel Recon 1 AUS-8
- Cold Steel SRK san mai
- Kershaw Leek D2

My Benchmade 940 S30V is the only knife I've ever taken out of the box that was so dull it couldn't be used before being reprofiled.

Yes, yes i have. BK&T's, Ka-Bar's, Cold Steel's, SOG hawk & even a cheap Remington folder have come to me razor sharp. Shave paper & hair right OOTB. :D

I've been happy with Spyderco, Busse, Ranger (pre-Ontario) and Benchmade edges out of the box so far.

Cold steel, Spyderco, Mora & Fällkniven all have fantasmical factory edges as i recall
My Busse Tank Buster had a superb edge too
