Ever bought a knife because of a pic on this forum?

Pics? You think that's bad, I bought a scout knife because of Carl's stories.

I'm betting jackknife's stories & pics of Case Peanuts caused a rise in Case's market value.

Yes, the first time I saw one of 300Bucks' pictures of his Buck 307 large stockman I had to have one. I went from not knowing they existed to being sold on them all in one picture. Its currently on the way to me, really looking forward to this one. I got it in a freak of nature auction that was being watched by several people but nobody bid and I paid under $30. As long as the pictures are correct its in almost perfect condition, just a little rust spot on the back springs.

Another time was also recently, I'd been wanting a thinner SAK than my current lineup to use as a neck knife in a little kydex holster thingy, as I've always liked the idea of a neck knife but not the idea of the little blacked out tacticool fixed blades commonly used as neck knives, but I couldn't decide on a particular model until I kept seeing the Electrician and its cousin the Pioneer mentioned as great slimmed down SAK's. Seeing someone's picture of the Pioneer made me realize that's exactly what I needed. I like the Electrician but with one blade already and an awl, I decided I'd get more use out of the mini screwdriver/can opener than the little blade/wire stripper of the Electrician. This knife will go with me a lot when I can't or don't want to carry my Leatherman. I still need the kydex sheath, but haven't got around to finding one. Any ideas?

Well, that's quite an honour and responsibility:D:eek::eek: I really hope Keith and Dr. M find the Dixie as satisfying as I do, and I'm not normally a fan of the Big Stock-knife.

Interesting thread though, for my part as I'm a European I simply don't have access to knife-shops in my part of the continent. Thus I depend on trusted dealers on the internet and the pictures and reviews here most certainly have made a big impact. I'll never forget the very first GEC I got in 2007, the feel of it and the bone scales just sent me into orbit. I opened the packet in a cafe and just forgot about my coffee and cake, a tidal wave of drool overwhelmed me.:D:thumbup: It was a 2 blade 73 in stainless from 2006, nowadays I'd probably be a little more critical of it as it has a rather raised spring on open and somewhat proud shield, monsta springs too (but that aint bad  ) but it stunned me with its beauty . I got to hear about GEC through here, it was just starting, and some pictures set me off to get the acorn shield 73. I still have it and would love to have it changed into single blade but I wonder if anybody could dismantle it without busting the bone? doubt it.

Maybe this will give you some ideas? This is my most recent GEC and I'm thoroughly pleased with the pattern, seeing somebody else's Ebony version persuaded me to get the Green Bone. No wonder I have no money...

Regards to all other addicts, at least we're in the same boat, traditional mind!

Yes definitely, that's why this forum is so darn DANGEROUS! :D

LOL!! Of course.

This forum is a the reason for all the GECs I´ve accumulated during time. My first was the #66 Serpentine Jack and then it went straight on. My poor wallet ;)

It could go on and on... but that is not topic of this thread ... :p :D

I enjoy that transition, from thinking 'that knife looks strange, no way could I carry that', to reading about it on the forum and coming to think that I absolutely have to have that knife. e.g. the Swayback Jack, GEC Boy's knife.

On the other hand, I try to resist some of the trends, and ask myself do I really like pattern x, that is so popular at the moment? and what do I really like that is not necessarily popular on the forums. This the case for Muskrat patterns, I also liked the GEC Maverick - people saw it as a Stockman with a deformed small clip, whereas I saw it as a half-congress with a bonus small clip.

I've been quite successful in resisting the "flavor of the month" syndrome in nearly everything I've ever collected. I've seen that syndrome cause otherwise relatively rational men to run around like a lab rat pushing every button looking for its next hit of whatever addictive substance or food pellet is being used in the test. Long ago I promised myself to step back and wait and ponder on the "flavor of the month" and associated marketing before deciding to buy into whatever it happens to then be. Most often I've then decided not to buy.

Only dang near everyday. The last one was a Case Pen knife posted up by OH. Found one on the bay and been carrying it since.

Yep, probably 90% of my knives are because I see them here, or there. Latest one is from Ken Coats. (His picture attached). It's an addiction, no doubt about it.

coyote 711,
Funny you ask this question.
I came to this forum a short time ago to research an old Boker slip joint I've had for years.

That 'research' lead to my discovery of GEC which lead to my discovery of Knives Ship Free, the most comprehensive knife shop I've ever stepped foot in, which just happens to be in my neighborhood, relatively speaking.

So, often times it goes like this for me:
Do more 'research' on this forum, look at photos , then drive to KSF and browse the cases with research in hand.

Also, coyote, thanks to one of Your photos I ended up buying one of Your knives. [emoji1]
