I have been known to buy a weird knife mainly because it was weird. Like the Cold Steel Demko AD-15 Lite, which promptly cut me.

I bought a nice magnacut for my daughter from David Mary here on the board. She absolutely loves it. At age 9 she is now ruined on garbage knives. So any boy that shows up with his $12 gas station folder will be dismissed for the garbage he is.... Can't be any more right than that.


And after I read through this thread earlier I went and looked at the cold steel black talon again. I need one of those.....

Don't think I have ever bought a knife for the wrong reasons.

But I sure have wanted to buy knives for the wrong reasons. I have no need for a 5 1/2 inch double edged folding dagger with assisted opening . . .but wanted one from the Darel Ralph shop. Same goes for a Randall fixed blade dagger in some exotic handle materiel.

It would be nice to have anything done by Bil Moran or Bob Loveless.

And for any of these wishes, the "wrong reason" is lack of need and exorbitant expense.

I EDC a Leatherman Wve. I do n not need to carry a folding dagger, Kukri or a sub-hilt fighter.

Given that a sizeable scratch off jackpot ever came through, I might opt for one of the Chris Reve folders to go along with the Leatherman though.
