Ever broke a Custom Knife???

Only failure I have experienced with one of my better knives, was not due to any deficiency in the blade or the manufacture of it, but due to my Son's misuse of one of my Randall Made knives.
He actually hacked bone while skinning out a deer, and rolled the blade. A Randall #11 is NOT designed to hack bone!
I was able to fix the rolled section, but he has not been allowed to even hold one of my better knives since.

If I have any doubts about the strength of a knife then it's no good to me and so far I have had none break.
One that I have beat hard and rough used a lot is my JK Hiker, I've never hammered it through concrete cos I haven't needed to but I'm quite sure it would stand up to that as well( someone did actually test one of Johns blades with the concrete etc and it came out fine)

I will say that I have had small dings in the edges of some knives, you expect that though eh !

I have one knife though that is not a custom, my SWKW Chopweiler, and this thing just amazes me.I really wish you could see me abuse this thing. I smash it through the largest most gnarly knots you could imagine and the edge is always perfect.Sometimes I'm covered in sweat and my hand throbbing from going through some particularly knotty/gnarly wood and I then inspect the edge thinking the worst and....nothing !!!!

I would not expect functional superiority in the average custom-made knife. Sure there are some makers who are true masters of the craft and have perfected their heat treat.
A factory is an efficient way to make a knife, car, computer and most other things. Nothing wrong with that.

I agree. I've never broke one but I dont' think just cause it's custom it's better.

Yeah, I broke a custom before. I made the mistake of listening to the hype in the knife rags at the time & used ATS-34 for a long bladed chopper. It was fun until that time I accidentally whacked a steel bar that was hidden in the grass.

Growing up on the farm, knives were an all around tool. They all got broken or plumb wore out (if not lost first).

My hardest use knives are still customs.

Cliff Stamp despite his trolling showed that as well with his ATS-34/S30V strider tests. I was a little shocked to see a knife ground like that fall apart against a cinder block. I have folders in those steels where cutting is the most rigorous task but for chopping give me 5160, L6, 1095, 1084, and the other time proven steels.
