Ever Buy a Backup?

Have you ever purchased a knife that you liked so much that you bought a second one just in case?

I had never considered doing so until this year. I have come to like my Buck Vantage Pro so much that I did in fact get a second one just in case. If I never have to use it, so be it, I can always give it away.

I have bought and used knives for around 60 years now and have never found a better buy in the market. The materials used along with the F&F and guaranty are hard to beat.

So, have you ever done the same?

i actually have backups for all the knives that i consider my favorites

i usually like to alter my knives a lot, and i like to keep an original just so i don't feel bad about really roughing up or changing a knife

Yes sir. Yes, I have. I almost always buy two of a knife I like, otherwise I am hesitant to use it. I bought seven of the small vantages, but now I am down to three. I gave some to friends and sold a couple. I got a little carried away I think.

I have 2 kershaw blurs. I bought the first one and loved it so much I decided to get a second just to have.

Got 2 backup BM 710's on the way.
I'll probably order a couple extra Spydie Gayle Bradley's, as well.
No other knives have appealed enough to me to buy backups.
I see a knife sale in my future... lotsa blades I just won't use after figuring out what tickles my fancy.

When buying a limited knife that I might fall in love with and not be able to buy later, I almost always buy 2. If I don't like it that much then I can sell off one or both. I think I'm down to 5 Benchmade Rift which is my absolute favorite knife. If there were more versions of it then I would have more. I have a couple of the Spyderco Manix 2 also.

I'm guilty of this too. My plan was to buy one to be a user and another to keep for the collection. :D However, this doubles the initial expense. With funds being short I've turned to selling some of mine to put towards purchases of knives I don't yet own but want to.

Of course, at least on the rare occasion that I buy a knife with the intent of using. I wouldn't carry a knife that didn't have a new-condition duplicate stashed away in the Accumulation. Too difficult and too expensive to find exact replacements for discontinued knives.

have a couple but not so many, lack or cash
I think I would buy some doubles but not of any knife I own, would be too much and repetitive

Rarely do i buy two of the same kind of knife, but i do have two CF millies, and mainly carry only one of them, and i have a backup vic cadet in black ALOX...they are my essentials so i thought it would be a good idea to have two of them

Not really "backups..." But I have multiple Delicas so that when one gets dull and I don't have time to sharpen it, I have a backup ready to go.

Sure do! You never know if a beloved knife will be discontinued. Pluss like someone else said, if I have a backup I won't be so afraid to use hard and possibly loose that knife.

Yup. Just bought a pair of Lone Wolf Harsey T2 Tacticals in green/black Micarta. :) I already have one in red/black and know I love it.

Stay sharp,
desmobob

I toy with the idea sometimes, but other than having a Victorinox Pioneer and Soldier I don't have any backups. There's always something different I want to try. Plus I'm relatively new to knife collecting.

Sure. I find Mora 760 fits many of my needs so I have them everywhere. I like small sodbusters so I have about a half dozen in various makes. I like yellow or orange handles so when a knife that has worked for me comes out in one of those colors I buy another. I also stash knives I like for gift giving.

for my backup.

I've only ever bought a backup for my new Victorinox Cadet, but that's only because they were on clearance for half off! I've really fallen in love with this knife, I need to get some pictures of the two of them up on here.

I only bought a back up once. I have two of the Benchmade 705 Forum Knife.

It is a great little knife!
