Ever Buy a Backup?

I bought doubles on; Large Sebs, Small Sebs, Umnums, Nyalas, Busse SAR4's,
Swamprat HRLM's, Ratmandu's, M9LE's, CS SRK's, Becker Brute's, ESEE 4's, 6's, Spyderco Salt H2's, Camillus Dominator's, KOA's, BM AFO II's, Scrapyard DDF's, CASE Swayback Jack's, Fallkniven A-1/F-1's, BRKT Bravo's, Izula's, Fehrman Thru-Hiker's, and who knows what else. Those immediately come to mind. I really don't know if there is any difference between collecting knives and a heroin addiction. At least with the knives I have something to show for and no tracks (other than a papertrail of payments with the bank statement).

I have a backup of my Spyderco Tasman Salt PE. Because I lost it, ordered another, then found it the day before the new one came.

Were a strange lot for sure :p
I have 4 Para 1"s and 4 Stretch 2"s, 2 Millitarys 3 UKPK"s and more...;)

If I like a knife alot I always buy a backup. I feel that when you find that fits you good it will never hurt to have more than 1. When my son gets older he can always have the extra knife for himself. just ordered 2 cold steel recon 1 with tanto blades ( i have an older recon with a clip blade already) and 2 gerber santiums yesterday online for around $175. I had budgeted $200 back to get a second emerson sark. but seeing that i havent used the first one, i bought these

I have done this several times, with my CRK Shadow I; Shadow III; Sebenzas, Xm-18's, etc. The list goes on and on.

Hi jvan -

Yes, I have a spare Vic Waiter in my drawer waiting for the day that I either break or lose my primary.

I feel totally out of sorts if I don't have that little Waiter with me.

best regards -

I don't usually buy back-ups as I have many NIB knives that I want to use someday. The only exceptions would be some great sale price or one that I especially like.

for my backup.

Could not have said it better if I tried. When you find one that is as close to perfect for you than you can get, you have better try and corner the market cause it is going to get discoed, for one reason or another even the small regular sebenza was discoed, need I say more.

no backups here. if i lost a long term user knife, marked up and made unique, i dont think a brand spanking new twin would really be a suitable replacement. but thats me.

I used to but I work in an office enivronment and don't beat on my knives. I found myself with a tupperware box full of knives I'd never use in this lifetime and sold them to upgrade to some customs/high end knives that I never dreamed of owning a couple of years ago. If I need to get rough with a knife I have a few beaters and that's what I use. :)

Maybe...

I have a Schrade Uncle Henry that I bought a backup for, but mostly since the only ones produced any longer are Taylor imitations.

Well now I know what's been causing those earthquakes lately round here: it's the weight of jnevill's knife collection!
;)
