ever "discover" a spyderco after its discontinued?

Yes, I missed out on the Superleaf and regret it. Also I was just too late to the party for several Sprint/Exclusive Para 2's.
There's enough new things coming from Sal and Eric to keep my discretionary spending utilized though.

for me i seem to always play catch up on spyderco's! and end up getting two of each before they become discontinued!and that's a little costly, got three gayle bradley 1) and two stretch 2/VG-10/FRN/black just because i heard they where going to be discontinued!and i don't even play with them, end up sticking them in the safe.

I was lucky enough to score a Hossum Dayhiker and a Super Blue Mule. I want a Lionspy or Superleaf.

This thread is truly one I can identify with and on at least 6 occasions of discovering great Spyderco models after they've been discontinued>> but the big one that really caught on with me after it was deleted from the main line up and was quickly virtually forgotten about by even many hard core Spyderco fanatics is the original FB-05 TEMPERANCE 1 model>> The one selling point that really caught on with me was that it is one of the very few fixed blade Spyders that was available in plain edge and Spyderedge both.

Since the mid 2000s the Temperance 1 model ( SE & PE) has been my "GO-TO" fixed blade(s) that I use for a wide array of uses. I use Temperance 1 just as much in the kitchen as I do for most hard cutting jobs. For a long time I've tried to get the Great Spyder Factory to consider either doing a Sprint Run or bringing back the TEMP 1 in maybe the H-1 Salt Series>> which would make it an affordable and highly useful fixed blade without breaking the bank. The Temp 1 is a jewell hidden in plain view and I'm hoping for some type of comeback soon.

One other model I can say that I caught on late with was the C-44 big DYAD model>> I had two in my collection for some time before I broke down and EDCed one for almost a year. To me I believe that the C-44 Dyad is an incredibly versatile all purpose folder and I'm surprised that more people haven't discovered it. I was also sort of slow catching on to the practical uses of Spyderco's great Hawkbills and reverse S blades too. I guess it's just because Spyderco is simply ahead of their time for a lot of their unique models.

I didn't want to risk that with the GB1. So it's now on its way in the mail. The GB2 just doesn't look as unique to me.

One other great Spyderco folder that I got after it had been discontinued is Spyderco's C-60 Ayoob in full Spyderedge. I had used, EDCed and carried daily my first original C-60 Ayoob in plain edge but when I finally landed one in full Spyderedge. After talking to a couple of my Spyder-Brothers over at the Spyderco.com forum I just couldn't believe how functional and ergonomic that the C-60 Ayoob was in full Spyderedge.

One last folder that I got way after it was deleted from the main line up was my first C-14 stainless handled RESCUE model. I had owned at least 3 of the FRN versions of the iconic RESCUE model but the ATS-55 version with the stainless handles/scales I discovered was truly in a league of it's own. I cut my teeth on a model somewhat like the stainless RESCUE>> because my very first Spyder ever was a stainless handled, full Spyderedge, GIN-1 Mariner model. But I'm here to tell you even as good as the Mariner model was the stainless handled RESCUE model was as solid as the granite on Mt. Rushmore.

There have been at least 4 other Spyderco models I discovered well after their being discontined. But the SE C-60 Ayoob and the ATS-55 full SE, stainless handled RESCUE models are some of Spyderco's most well hidden secrets>> and hidden in plain view at that.

H1 Temperance has been in my mind for quite a while now.
Sal, if you're reading the thread, make it happen!

Yeah when you think about it you would have a fixed blade knife with an FRN handle and the option of Plain Edged or Spyderedged blade selection ( I want both) and with an H-1 or the newer LC200N they used on the TUSK model. This could be an excellent camp knife, hunting knife, fishing knife and affordable as well as high quality.

I always found it interesting that it's popularity never really took off until it was discontinued. I truly love the blade design much better than the Moran and most other Spyderco fixed blades. The TEK LOK sheath or a newer/better version would be great for outdoor use. There is a reason I've used my PE & SE Temperance 1 models for the past 10+ years>> it is because it is a terrific blade design. It's another one of Spyderco's "In House" masterpiece models.

The original Starmate with 440V.
Traded into one a few years back, and really like it.

Missed the Michael Walker CF
I caught the Kopas after they were out of production, but some were still to be had, so snagged a few
Same with the Kiwis, managed two of those
Missed the Jester, but caught the grey sprint
Missed the Dodo(s), can't justify the high price when they pop up
Missed the Goddards, snagged a used Baby
Missed the original Persians, but caught a 75mm just recently
... more all the time ...
