Rattlesnake season is in full effect round here! ---Santa Monica Mountains

Good shot and a nice looking snake.

It's kinda humorous we both posted rattlesnake threads minutes apart.

Uggghhh (shudder)...

We ain't got no venomous snakes 'round here and thats fine with me.

Thats one of the two things I actually like about Michigan.

Cool pic though

The eastern massasauga rattlesnake, Michigan’s only venomous snake, is a rare sight for most state residents. In fact, according to Yu Man Lee, associate zoologist for the Michigan Natural Features Inventory, Michigan may well be the last U.S. stronghold for this species.

Cool pic, I love snakes, wish we had a few more different species where I am !!!

Yep. Know all about the Massasauga.

While venomous, its not all that deadly. Not only that, it comes with a rattle to let you know it means business.

They are, as stated, rare. In fact, in 39 years in this state I've never run into one.

They claim that Oakland County holds the largest population of them but I've spent a lot of time in Oakland and have yet to see one.

I was more or less referring to the area of Michigan I live in where a rattler is pretty much nonexistent. Sorry if I was not clear on this one.

I was wondering about that. We have Eastern Massassauga here in Ontario, so I thought Michigan probably does too. Apparently we also used to have Timber Rattlers but the last sighting was back in about 1950.

Doc
No snakes (or venomous spiders,or skunks, or racoons) here in Newfoundland.
Doc the two years i lived in Ont i wanted to and tried to find/see a snake (any snake) in the great outdoors. Saw not-a-one.
:grumpy:
I know they exist up there but they must be allergic to me, lol!
Saw about a million skunks though!
:D

We have loads of snakes here in Western NC/East Ten. Copperheads, eastern diamondback rattlers. I even saw 2 black widow spiders a couple nights ago in the corners of my barn. Lots of fun.
