So I was visiting my kids and grandkids in Alaska for the new year and we decided to do some glacier climbing and hiking. Well can't go out without my BK16. Well as the sun started to set we were hurring off the glacier (almost 3 miles wide and only 5 and a half hours of daylight that day). As we got to the trail I noticed that my sheath wasn't hitting my leg like normal. When I reached down my heart sank. Guess two things will happen, one I get to go shopping for another BK16 and a new Becker fan will be born when they find it. ... Unfortunately it was my last day so I couldn't go back and the last photo that had it in it was when we were on the top which would take 2 hours to reach not including the return trip. Not the trip memory I was planning on having. .... other than that it was a blast.

Pick up an after market sheath while you're at it...

Man, sad story...that sucks!
Sorry for your loss...

That stinks!

Got me thinking abut maybe looping the lanyard under my belt or something similar just for that added little bit. If i slip the knot under my belt I could still draw the knife readily but perhaps that little extra grab of the knot under the belt could save the day.

You may have lost a knife - but you gained a story.

So sorry about that. I thought the factory was to loose... I had a kydex made, and it feels more secure....

Some day, a long time in the future, some archeaologist is gonna find it and come up with all kinds of weird theories on how it got there.

Glad you are ok. Sorry about losing the 16.

That is a good point, I could have easily done some serious damage to arms etc. and we were a good ways from getting help.

Here is the last photo before I took a good spill off the small ridge top just over my right shoulder. Great adrenaline rush once I came to a stop. LOL

Here is a good shot from the glacier.

One of the fracture caves

Now a few fun pics. Here is one I call Praying Mantis Attack.

My first thought was: "NooooooOOoooo!!" But then I looked at the pics and thought: "regrettable but acceptable loss considering the rest of the trip". Wow. I'd volunteer to lose a 16 for the chance to do a trip like that. The knife being replaceable, the experience not. Sorry to hear about your loss, just the same.

I'll have to agree with GSOM. Sucks losing your knife, but what an experience you must've had. Thanks for sharing those pics.

I have a spare FFG bk16 - PM or email me your address and I can ship it out.

Eric I truly appreciate the offer, but my wonderful wife has just informed me that she already has me covered for my up coming birthday. She was reading over my shoulder and had that weird there is something I need to tell you look on her face. I think she is definitely a keeper.

Awww sad day! Great pics though. Glad to hear you're getting a new one. Also glad you weren't hurt when it disappeared. Gosh Alaska is so pretty.
