Ever had this sick feeling?

Epic adventure!!!

Its not truly an adventure unless you lose something along the way. Good thing it was your knife and not your life!!

Once you get your new knife outfitted the way you want it, shoot it my way and I will whip up something kydexy for it.

Enjoyed your story and pics. As others, I too am glad you didn't get hurt. And get a 15 to boot!

Come to think of it, I need a 16 to go with my 15s.

Plenty of 16s out there. You got to go on my dream vacation. Lots of jealousy here. I'm NOT sorry for you one bit. (I lost my 16, too) [emoji53]

That is a good point, I could have easily done some serious damage to arms etc. and we were a good ways from getting help.

Here is the last photo before I took a good spill off the small ridge top just over my right shoulder. Great adrenaline rush once I came to a stop. LOL

Here is a good shot from the glacier.

Now a few fun pics. Here is one I call Praying Mantis Attack.

Pics worth the cost IMO,

Sucks about the Blade but Damn

KEEP EM SHARP

oh, i saw the knife in the snow :D

both snaps?

lanyards for the win!

be glad you didn't fall on it...

i blame the TSA...

I'd gladly lose a 16 to go back to Alaska...last time I was there a month for work purposes, and only got to venture out a few times. I got to go out on a glacier outside of anchorage, but due to time restraints didn't get to enjoy it near as much as you did.

That's why they put two snap straps! :D
Sorry you lost it. Great pics though.

I have a spare FFG bk16 - PM or email me your address and I can ship it out.

When I was younger I would always go to my favorite bar. All my friends were there, atmosphere was relaxed and friendly. Now that my bar days are in the past, I come here to the Becker forum. Same atmosphere, same good people. Nicely done 1066vik.

Sorry to hear about this buddy. Did you give away all the survival vest sheaths? Seems to me, one of those would've been handy in preventing this.

I only kept one for me and it has worked great on my main backpack. You are right it would have been perfect to moved it over. Wish I would have thought of that.

I don't fault you, you were Army. You're not used to working with hand-me-down gear.

Talk to me Hawk! I can make you up some wicked leather for your next 16 bro.

Awesome pix and still sucks that you lost your knife. I know what that's like. never a good day.

How much do your leathers run on avg for a knife around 5"...

I know this sick feeling you speak of...last time it happened to me was January, 2013...

I was almost as naked as the day I was born, standing rib deep in the cold #&$ Verde River. I had just waded, stumbled, whatever you want to call it, to the far side to cut a line loose that stretched over the river. Boy did my wife laugh at me when my nuts hit the water. Anyways, I made the cut with my BK11, a six year veteran of my everyday stupid decisions, and quickly stuffed it back in my neck sheath, the only thing I was wearing at the time. I might have been hasty in re-sheathing it because the 80 pound test line I had in my hands was extremely heavy, loaded with hundreds of pounds of algae just below the water's surface that was being pushed by the fast moving water. I was holding the line in my left hand when I made the cut and was almost jerked off my feet instantly. It cut into my fingers as I quickly tried to move downstream to lesson the weight. I decided to let go of it instead of cut my hands up more and possibly suffer a more serious injury.

Half way back to the other side, my neck sheath felt a little light and I looked down in horror at the empty thing. I was so bummed but very happy I didn't step on my BK11 on the crossing back.

Glad you made it out with no injuries. Sexy pictures, too.

Sounds like an unfortunate factory sheath incident that we all have nightmares about...

New to the Becker world here. I have a BK7 with the newest factory sheath. Might someone(s) elaborate on the weakness of the factory sheath in regards to retaining the knife?

I have added a secondary retention system by using the grommets above the snap straps and running paracord through them, around the knife handle and using a spring slider for tension. When not on the go, I just loosen the paracord and flop it behind the sheath. To give the sheath liner a little better grip, I cut a strip out of a half gallon juice bottle a little larger than the liner and heated in oven with two chopsticks under it. The plastic got soft and formed ridges where the chop sticks were. I trimmed and folded a piece over to fit between the liner and the cordura to help hold it in place. End result... the knife fits snuggly, but can still be drawn smoothly with one hand, and it doesn't rattle around. With no straps I can turn the sheath upside down and shake slightly without the knife coming out. I used the plastic instead of leather or nylon weave, like I've read elsewhere, to lessen the chance of any moisture being trapped against the blade when sheathed. The new plastic liner insert stays put and does not move unless you use pliers.
Have I covered the bases, so to speak?
