Ever hand someone a knife and immediately regret your choice?

Just happened yet again. Guy needed to cut open a bag of zip ties. Opened and handed him my Mini Grip thinking he would hand it back the same way. First off he held it the most awkward manner making me think he would for sure cut himself. Then he tried to close it only holding one side of the Axis bar. I thank goodness keep it from being drop shut or it would have swung shut on at least two fingers. As is he nearly closed it himself on fingers.

Just cut things for the people. Everyone will be better off.
 
I have 2 that come to mind. I once handed a coworker a Bradford Guardian 3.5 only to find minutes later he'd used it to cut open bags of sand. He managed to completely remove an edge on an M390 blade in mere minutes. It took me hours and a large chunk of my sanity to get it back to shaving sharp on a standard Spyderco Sharpmaker as that was all I had at the time.

I've also come home from work to the horror show of catching my wife removing nails from a wall with my Spyderco Hundred Pacer she'd found on my nightstand. That thin CTS-XHP edge never stood a chance.

God invented SAK’s to hand over to friends. Gave us eBay and the TSA to keep ‘em cheap! I always carry a Climber for myself, and also for to handing out to pals when needed.

Oddly, you’d be surprised how many people a SAK can overwhelm.

Yep, I once handed a co-worker my Benchmade Bedlam, at which point he activated it and it launched itself halfway across the room. Landed right on the tip of course. Luckily only a small part of it was imbedded in the carpet and it wasn’t noticeable unless you knew what to look for.

I also made the mistake of handing another coworker my Benchmade Morpho balisong. He proceeded to open it, whip it around like Bruce Lee and lay the blade edge right across his knuckles. The knife was sharp as hell too, but somehow he managed to not cut himself. I could not believe it though.

So yeah, I’ve given up on the practice of loaning knives out.

It was funny at the time .
Now with all the recreational drugs thrown into the mix .

I voted to legalize pot , for medicinal use to start . At the time our Libraries were opening late in the morning / closing early and our parks looked like dry vacant lots .
I wanted the tax money .

Now the Libraries are running on time (no body reads books anymore ; at least not the ones we hire ; I ask every one : "What is the significance of ""221- B"" "). Not a one can answer .
I could answer it in Junior High .
They even play with that ("221") with tongue in cheek in the TV series House . You know , with Hue Laurie .

The Parks are nice again .
Every one here just sits on a curb or on the side walk (????) when they could take a break in a near by park a block or two away .

No, I don't trust people with my stuff. My dad would loan out his stuff when I was a kid, because he was a nice guy. Most things were returned damaged. That taught me a lot. If someone needs a trailer or equipment I just tell them that I'll help them and do the job for them. Definitely won't hand over a knife they can damage or cut themselves with and blame me for having an unreasonably sharp knife.

This thread only reinforces my distrust. Also, YouTube is another source for examples. A "knife reviewer" borrowed his dad's Spyderco Autonomy with an H1 serrated warncliffe blade. He decided to stab it into a tree and bent the tip. That's not what the knife was designed for. He had in the title "no tip strength".
 
I was at the shooting range once and used my Kershaw whirlwind for something (can’t remember what it was). The cop shooting next to me asked to check it out.

I handed it to him and was just saying “now be careful not to ride the stud…it has assisted opening” Yep, laid his thumb open.

It was quick, surreal, and bloody. He needed stitches.
 
Today I hand my good friend my manix 2. I’ve trusted him with guns, a knife should be no big deal right? Wrong! He tries to flick it open, swings it around like a fool, gives it to this girl who wants to see it………:mad: she starts trying to open it like a butterfly knife and I’m like WTF is wrong with you two? There are other people around and these are 40 something year olds.

Finally I grab my knife and tell both of them they need to learn knife handling skills. I try to show them how to flip it open with just their thumb and then they just make stupid remarks of it basically not looking cool. Told him, we will see who looks cool when a blade goes in someone’s cheek.

I immediately thought of this post. Never, no one, not anyone ever again! 🤦‍♂️

I also have horror stories however after I read about the Bark River mess I now carry the Bark River Adventure model to work and I don’t give a hoot if they do stupid things. The other day I saw a coworker digging some plastic hose out of a metal fixture which normally would set me off but with that knife (supposed to be elmax, don’t know but it is stainless) I don’t care. I was fortunate enough to read about that company early on so I only ever purchased a couple of knives before I knew how it operated..

Make sure you remember that..... You've escaped without a trashed knife......Usually don't happen that way!!!!
Now. I always ask why and offer to do it..........Those two knuckle heads will get together and make more lil ninjas I bet too.😉
