Ever heard of GSM Outdoors? They just bought Cold steel.

I never heard about this company or them buying Cold Steel. To me it looks a bit strange there was nothing about that on any knife review sites and YT channels I watch. In general I like Cold Steel, if this change don't break them, I don't mind it. But if new owners will reduce quaity or value, I just won't buy from them and won't be too sad about it.

I wonder if it is a coincidence or something related. I just saw that fake Code 4 appeared on some Chinese sites. Listed under real name and look very close, together with a brand box. I know there are other fake models, but first time I saw this one. And they usually photoshop logos or put a different name on the shopping site. Maybe cloners also noticed the change and thought a bigger owner with other brands under them will care less or that people will now buy more before new management change things.

Whatever the reason, I guess be more careful now when you buy a Code 4 from someone else than trusted store.

WTH, now we’re looking side-eye at a company for being pirated? This makes no sense. Pirating damages companies, and this mindset compounds the damage.

Hmm, I saw a counterfeit pair of Adidas online, must be something wrong with Adidas.

Hey, at least he came out with a video explaining his actions,i hope everything he says about the future of Cold Steel is true. And he didnt have to make that video, either. You dont see videos from Will Moon, Brad Duncan,or Jared West ,to name a few, explaining their actions, and those tools stole, lied,or screwed alot of people.I think any negative should be saved for idiots like them.....

Yes, you can. Ron Lake got a patent just a couple years ago.

It's the option you take when you don't want to run the company any more. CS has been one of the more profitable knife companies of the last 10 years and their Annual Reports are available. Look at the companies that have gone away in that time...

The majority of CS personnel in the USA were warehouse, sales, and marketing. That's not the folks you keep. (And yes, I know. I have toured the building in Oxnard.)

I've been in their shoes. Laid off in '91 on 30 DEC. Laid off in '02 first week of DEC. Lost another job 31 DEC in 2015. The holidays suck.

It's in Ventura, CA (6060 Nicolle St, Ventura, CA 93003.)

Rats. Looks like my idea of getting an American Lawman is not going to happen.

Bummer.[/QUOTE
I m surprised how hard they are to find (I looked for one right after I saw this post).
Keep looking. That might be one of the best folders in Cold Steel s lineup.
Good luck.

Comes across as as arrogant and lame. No mention of the team that supported him for 40 years. It sound like he is reading Words from a teleprompter That were written by GSM. Just this message tells me everything that I need to know Cold Steel.

They are dead.

"Arrogant?" "Lame?" How so? He actually publicly asked for forgiveness. That's not easy to do. He noted that GSM has technical resources CS does not. Again, not easy. He also noted that GSM has the ability to "keep knives on the shelves" which could mean a great many things. Again, he was humble enough to admit it. It seems like a number of people are projecting their own issues onto LCT on this thread.

Is Lynn C. Thompson any relation to George C. Thompson, Mr. "You have a friend in the diamond business!"

This will only make sense if you live on the Central Coast of California.

Six of one....

I was working at Port Hueneme, which is right there too. I drive around that part of the world without paying a heck of a lot of attention to the city limits because, as you know, they all just run together.

I feel the same way.

At first, I was thinking, "Sure... they asked him and Andrew to stay on for a few months to keep the customers calm and make it seem like nothing would be changing. They won't be staying long." But Mr. Thompson said they'd be staying on far, far into the future. That's encouraging.

I'm amazed how negative so many people's reaction to this sale have been. So far, it just seems like an absolutely normal/typical corporate sale. I truly hope people aren't suddenly losing their jobs without notice, but that's also normal/typical in a sale. Even top-levels execs get the boot when some companies are sold. That's one of the risks of being an employee vs. an employer. The business world can be a cruel world.

Absolutely not.

While all three are in Ventura County next to one another along the 101, there's a world of difference between Ventura and Oxnard and excuse me, Port Hueneme.

CS is a small company. I seriously doubt it has 50 people total. I can see where GSMO will move warehousing and order fulfillment to a cheaper, possibly already owned facility. On the other hand, product design, model-making, marketing, advertising, etc. might well remain in Ventura. Like it or not, Hollywood is only about 60 miles away, and CS has benefited from a relationship with the movie industry.

They all have been or are soon to be let go.

I will say this much. I emailed CS a few weeks ago, asking if they had any of their parking lot sales planned for the holidays? I received a response one day later. About 4-5 days ago, I emailed, asking if a certain deal on one of their knives was likely a clone? No answer yet.

There's a world of difference between Los Angeles and Bangkok; Oxnard and Ventura are opposite ends of the same street. You need to get out of SLO a bit more often.

You were wrong about where Cold Steel's HQ is located. Get over it.
