ever let anyone use you knife?

No one, and I mean no one uses my fountain pens.

That's hardcore, you use fountain pens? How do they compare to the usual suspects? What kind of back pressure is there? The only fountain pen I tried didn't have enough back pressure, I couldn't get neat print with it.

I let people use my knives all the time. Granted, I don't have anything SUPER expensive, but if I buy a knife I don't buy one I'm going to have to worry about breaking.

I don't buy knives to put away and fondle on occasion, my knives are in my pocket or on my belt and they're there for doing shit that needs done, and if they gotta do a little bit of prying or get a little dirty, that's what they're around for.

i lent an old CS voyager SE to my boss, not thinking. He used it to cut the bottom out of a large bag of rocks. What i got back was almost a PE knife. NEVER AGAIN!!!

I usually don't like to lend people knives, but I'll let them use mine if they're still within sight of me. At least that way if they start prying something I can tell them to stop before the break the knife. I remember once though, I was so peeved... A guy I was camping with asked me if he could use my pocket knife (Benchmade Kulgera), and as we were camping I figured he wanted it for some kind of camp chore. Instead he pulls out a pot pipe and starts scraping the gunk out of the bowl with it--mind you this is one of those glass ones the potheads use. So he's sitting there and I hear this screeching sound of my blade hitting glass, and when he hands it back to me I make a point to observe the part of the edge he just ruined. Then and only then does he ask to see it, look it over and goes, "Oh, that's a nice one!" Yeah, man, that's a nice one you just used as a glass scraper! Funny thing though, I knocked the burr and rolled edge off with a little rock and commented, "Yeah, I try to keep it as sharp as possible," and then he asked to see it again when he noticed the AXIS lock. Guy closed it on his pinky finger ( a lot of people do this with the kulgera for some reason ) and goes, "Well, seems it's still sharp." Pretty funny actually, and it wasn't really too bad, just had to sharpen the blade back out when I got home.

Past that, there are some knives I'll loan to people to see how they'll hold up to their use, or if I think a knife is cheap enough ( ESEE Izula or Case Trapper ) I'll just loan it to them and tell them, "Don't do anything you wouldn't do with it if you bought it for this much," and usually people treat them right. Once my friend asked to borrow my Kulgera and when I told him how much I paid for it, he declined and requested a cheaper knife saying, "I don't want to risk damaging or losing that one." So you know, some people are considerate.

Most potheads are like that. :p

My knives are also for being used - but I like to be the one that decides what use is appropriate for my knives and what use isn't. I know people that have no idea of how far a knife can be pushed and at what point you should fetch a different tool, I'd rather they broke their own knife and not mine. There's also the fact that I could misuse my own knife and break it, then I'd have to accept that I was foolish and move on, but if someone else borrowed my knife, misused it and broke it then I'd be pissed off - it is much better to just not lend out the knife in the first place.

I also like to balance up the equation and avoid borrowing other peoples stuff, it's easier to say no to someone when they want to borrow your stuff when you never ask to borrow their stuff. If you are always borrowing other peoples stuff then you look like a jerk if you won't lend them your knife.
