It will never end........

Hello,,,, I am a knife addict.... oh wait.. never mind, I already said that more n once....
Ha Ha, you recalled I go by "Goose". Use that everywhere except work.
I can't 'splain it either...got one or two of some other good manufacturers, but I keep on the Buck brand.
This is a good group of fellow addicts and appreciate all the help and tips.
Good peeps...

mfinden,

That Levi's looking Buck looks Photoshopped. Is it real? Have any better pics of it?

No, it's not photshopped. Look at the shadow on the bottom of the liner...you can see the overlap of the denim contour along the length of the tool.
It was easier to cut a piece of iron-on patch and use a bit of contact glue (clear and easy to rub off when done) than it would be to photoshop it. I'm not that creative ;)

See post #33 in this thread.

The "real" knife that was used for the pic is the serrated at http://www.mongoosemarv.com/buck.html
Actual one I used to go camping with and apply the denim to is now owned by some Army MP somewhere :(

Hey Scott. I have that one book marked for a bid attempt. I was with SDPD from 1973 through 1981 and that old building shown on the knife has a lot of meaning to me (as well as all the folks I carted down there against their will) I would really like to have it for my collection.

Congratulations Mike! :)

Thanks Goose. Oh yeah, if you were in Subic Bay, Philippines when your dad was stationed there, we may have crossed paths. I was there on numerous occassions back then.

Good deal Mike:thumbup: , I'm glad you snagged that SDPD 110,good price too, if it's as good as the pictures showed:D

Keeping with the thread title..."eve seen this on a 110 before?"...what the heck is on this blade:

http://cgi.ebay.com/BUCK-110-Foldin...ryZ42577QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem#ebayphotohosting

Maybe someone with a jumbo pc screen can see it better than me.

Hey Mike, I was in Subic Bay, RP from 1969-70. Was about 13 years old. Wow, if I was older let's just say my life would most likely be different. I WAS a good kid and there was a TON of whacky stuff to do, drink, and smoke during those days when Viet Nam was a hot LZ. Would've, should've, could've...but think I'm better off that I was a nerd.

Seen some crazy things going on over "Shi* River" when I lived off base for 6 months before we got on-base housing.
Were you on a ship with the 7th Fleet or on shore duty?

My dad was a Navy Chief...I seem to recall reading somewhere that you were Commissioned. That's ok...I still like ya, Sir :)

Goose, looks to me like those be scratches on the blade...but if your looking for a FG...get that, send it to Buck for blade upgrade, BG-42, you'd have yourself a wonderful knife. JMHO, Preston

Yeah Preston..good idea. What is your SWAG on the cost of doing a HeeBeeGeeBee 42 upgrade?
I have sent a inquiry to the seller but have not received a reply yet. Will keep you posted...

Goose,
I was in Subic in 1968, 69 & again in 1970. I was 21 years old in 1968 and scared by all those sub machine guns on every corner. I was a petty officer 3rd class and later a second class in those days and my dad was a Navy Chief too. I wasn't commissioned until 1981 (right after I left SDPD) You're right, those were some wild times in that part of the world. Ironically, I ended up marrying a Filipina (from Mindanao)

I think those are scratches too. A BG-42 upgrade should set you back $35 if I'm not mistaken.
Mike (sorry for hijacking the thread)

Hey Mike...
Yep, I bet we did cross paths...maybe even on the bridge tossing coins over to the kids in those boats (forgot what the boats were called). Ah, yes, Magsaysay Drive. Memories...

That is cool you married a Filipina. My dad married a Japanina (LOL)...so I'm a half breed hapa...that's why I don't feel toooo bad about my knocking the china Bucks with nic names...I'm a bit of the asian-persuasion and "made in Japan" myself LOL.

I don't think of you hijacking the thread if you were referring to the Navy yak. It is nice to learn about fellow members, their diverse backgrounds, and why we all have a common affinity for Bucks.
Plus we are talking blades.

Since the Alaskan has s30v, I may replace a beater blade with BG-42...but not certain which is really better.

Will keep all ya all posted :)

It went for $9.95...I don't know which of you guys got it, but you're lucky I didn't see it first... ;) :D
In the voice of Elvis...
"Thank you. Thank you. Thank you, very much".;) :D ;) :D

Yeah it looks all jacked up. Gonna see if I like the feel of the FG and, if I do, I will send it in for a blade replacement...can't decide on BG-43, s30v, 110 volts, or 220 volts...

I have a junker here somewhere that someone tried to make into a flip-knife by bending the rockerbar end up...now the blade overextends, kinda like in that pic...
