Ever settle on a pattern?

I guess I am in this club as well, my favorite patterns are scouts (mostly swiss army knives - carrying one daily since 1983) and stockman/sowbelly (carrying one daily since 2014).

In the movie Goodfellas, Joe Pescis characters mother, played by Martin Scorceses mother by the way, asks him why doesn't he find a nice girl and settle down, Joe Pesci responds that he finds a nice girl every night and comes home to his mom.

I'm quite happy with my Zulus and peanuts, but I'm addicted, so what can I do? I carry a 14 boys knife, the peanut to rule them all and in the darkness of the Damascus bind them (the Precious), my ebony Tribal Spear, my chestnut bone LC, my Victorinox green alox cadet and now, either my Wiseman barlow or my chestnut bone coffin jack. And you know what, for all of the $ I spent on those other knives, the SAK and the peanut get most of the work. The others are primarily for coon fingering and chicken eying.

At least it's not cocaine.

Not really settled. Too many patterns I have not tried yet.
Most days I have a large stickman, 4 blade camp/scout/utility, canoe or barlow, or large sunfish, and a Buck 110 or Old Timer LB6 or LB7 on me.

Cattlemen stockman and hj's. Really like a knife with a punch. Been carrying my forum knife everyday since I sent my #h49 off for a regrind(Queen D2). And a fixed everyday, mostly spear point, but I'm starting to really like fixed blades with a good clip, or the "right" kind of clip for me.
Thanks, Neal

Another dyed in the wool multi-blade guy here, as it's one of the main reasons I prefer traditionals. I nearly always carry a Cadet and a large stockman or sowbelly, but occasionally carry a two-blader with the Cadet, and it usually has a bellied and a straight blade. I've even modified quite a few blades so that I can have my straight-edged secondary.

"Ever settle on a pattern?"

I haven't yet, but for my wallets sake, I hope I do soon...
Still want to try a 48 single clip, a 98 camp, and a sowbelly in Carbon steel.
-----
I may not want to hear the answer due to it causing my chasing of a grail, but here it goes...

Has anyone seen or heard of a company that has made or makes a
Splitback Sowbelly whittler?
I think I could settle on that.

Eta: Found one, but do you folks know of any that aren't 420hc?
Schatt & Morgan produced one but the steel leaves some to be desired...

I've tried about everything and still have examples of many, but I tend to mainly focus on single blade barlows, jacks, etc. I'm also quiet fond of single spring, two blade patterns.

In some ways, it's easier to say what I don't like as they're the minority just 2 or 3 patterns ;)

The rest I'm promiscuously enthusiastic about :D:cool: Days go by with single-blade knives, then I need a blade at each end, then 2 blades one end, then 3 but is it Stockman or Whittler? Can't say! Then a small knife, then medium and sometimes in the outdoor coat a big 'un settles in. Whim & Mood, traditional always satisfy both though.

Lol great post!

Another vote for stockmans but I add variety to my carry. Jacks, whittlers and my 14 single blade are common carries.

Whew, if I had to pick ........ which really means, that I haven't. I have my favorites though.

Sportsman knife!

Spear blade that is universal blade shape and versatile workhorse. Secondary small clip blade with more point for more detailed work. Bottle cap lifter for your beer sessions. Can opener if the lid lever of your bean can breaks. Awl for your wood and leather knick knacks. Cork screw for fancy wine dinners. :D

What more can you ask!

Stockmans and Whittlers seem to be the most popular knives for folks that use them a lot. I went a different direction just to shake things up, and I carry a sowbelly, but it's still a 3 blade.

After 30 years of cranking on mills and lathes and turning wrenches, I've got a pretty good amount of arthritis in my hands. More anymore over the past several years, I've gravitated to friction folders like Opinels, my Resolza, and the Japanese Higonokami. They cut well, and a fumble fingered old man can safely deal with them.

Having a choice between different blade profiles and sizes is handy at times, but it comes at the cost of added weight and thickness. For EDC purposes I'd rather have my knife nice and trim. 3.75" closed is my sweet spot for both comfort of use and ease of carry.

I also have a thing for stag.

My traditionals consist mostly of stockmans, Barlows, scouts, SAKs & fixed blades; because those are the ones that have always appealed to me. Even within those groups, it's sometimes hard to decide which ones I feel like carrying on any given day.

It's nice to have choices.
