Sportsman knife!

Excellent choice!!

GEC notes this thread:

"Hey boss. We better get to work on that 35 Scout and a whole bunch of Stockmans. "

Settle on one pattern? Makes my head hurt just trying to imagine settling on one. I do own more stockmans than any other pattern if that counts.

Generally a two bladed jack knife of some kind is my overall favorite. But I generally EDC a SAK that only has one blade on it.

I lean away from Stockman or Congress patterns although I did acquire a small stockman this spring to see if I like carrying and using it.

I've tried a few different patterns but, the 92 Eureka Jacks find their way into my pockets more than any other pattern

Mine just keep getting smaller. I went from a Leatherman Wave to a 110 clone to an opinel no. 8 for a short time, now a Case 44 Texas Jack.

I don't know if I'm fully settled, but I defiantly like the big blade/small blade combo. I wish my small blade was a wharncliffe though, having a more precise, tippy cutter would make a big difference.

My favorite is the Camillus 72 Whittler (originally called the Carpenter's & Whittler's knife) or any of it's clones.

But I'm also all agog over two blade medium jacks.
IE. Camillus 14s and equivalents.

Hey Stockman carriers, do you find that:
A) you use each particular blade for a particular reason, b) use whatever happens to open first, c) use only the main blade?

Enquiring minds are asking!

I 2nd this. I got a 108OT cheap just to see what stockmans are all about, but haven't gotten around to fixing the broken tips yet.

Medium serpentine stockman with rounded bolsters and Turkish clip for me. I don't mind a good jack knife, but I find a sheepsfoot to be more useful than a pen blade. Now, if I could get GEC to make a 66 that had the Turkish clip from the Calf Roper Slim on the same frame with a sheepsfoot, I would buy a lifetime supply of those.

I use the small blades for things like opening packages and light duty tasks in general. Usually the Sheepsfoot or Coping blade. I tend to use the large blade for the harder tasks like cutting nylon banding and zip ties. Sometimes however, I do just use the first blade that happens to open first.

There is a method to my madness so to speak but probably not as much as most folk's. I could easily get by with one blade for everything. I just don't want to.

Answer: Mostly B, sometimes A.

Some things that need cutting, any old sharp edge will do the job as well as any other one. Some other things, a particular blade shape works best.

My preferred knife is the GEC #42 which is a jack knife of course; GEC calls it a trapper. I very much like the Northwoods Madison Barlow (two blade) on the same frame. Use one blade and have the second one for backup mostly. I do like two full sized blades. But, I am very in thralled with the two blade GEC #14 Boys Knife.... so who knows where my interests are going? Still a jack knife pattern.

A) for me. I use the main clip blade for food and opening letters, or anything that requires the longer blade. The sheepfoot is used for opening packages, cutting cardboard, precision draw cuts and opening blister packs. The third blade, if a spey is used mainly for scraping, and if a pen is used for detail cutting when a small blade with a sharp tip is needed (splinter removal).

I'm slowly inching up to trying this pattern [emoji5]
