Just wondering- Has anyone else ever snagged the pocket clip of a folding knife on something, or otherwise scratched/damaged things from making contact with the pocket clip? I just happened to snag the clip on my BM 812 on the striker plate of a doorway in the house- it actually bent the plate out!

I do that all the time! I especially need to watch when brushing up against vehicles. I have snagged my pocket clips on so many things that the clip is loose on one knife and the other fell off(plastic handle)

All the time. I scratched my truck, I've ripped upholstery, I have scratched the clip all up on my BM 750. I really have to check it all the time, I remove it when sitting in my leather furniture, I put it in the bottom of my pocket a lot. How about this for an idea - coat the clip with a soft plastic, kind of like what they coat tool handles with? Nah, then it won't slide over your pants material. The damage to pants pockets is another issue. I guess the pocket clip isn't perfect.

A knife is by default a tool, it's only a weapon when a human chooses to make it so.

Yup. This past weekend, I caught the clip on my Spyderco Viele on a handtruck I was loading. It stopped me in my tracks, and twanged the clip, but to my amazement didn't damage the clip or the knife at all. The Jot Singh Khalsa I own, however, popped a clip screw when I brushed the clip against a wall. I guess this is why the Viele screws are sunk into the steel liners instead of just the micarta.

No, but I catch my pockets on lots of things

My Grand Prix has a nice 2" scratch right behind the driver's side door. Hooked my Shabaria clip on a cubicle wall and "PING", it snapped right off. Fortunately, I like it better without!

The clip on my AFCK has torn chunks out of my trucks steering wheel as I'm getting out. Took it off and bent it myself (it stuck out too far from the factory), and it doesn't do it any more. Clips in the pocket more securely, too.

took a chunk out of my door the day i got my native

I have caught my clip on many things also. I really hated scratching my new truck witht the clip on my Sebenza. I have also taken a chunk out of my car steering wheel with the same clip bending it at a right angle. I try to watch that movement now or I put the knife in the bottom of my pants pocket when I know I will be in and out of the car a lot.

Snapped the clip clean off my old style Endura getting out of a tight bathroom door at a coffee shop in the city after a Yankee game. Guess that's why Spyderco changed their clip design.

The Pro-Grip has a friendlier design, but it is not so friendly to clothes.

Too bad someone doesn't come up with a clip that is two piece; one part for the clothes and one part for the knife. Maybe a Concealex in-the-pocket sheath that holds a clipless knife. I want royalties if this happens!

I catch the clip of my LCC on the steering wheel of my wife's car all the time. I haven't hurt the car but my LCC's clip is a twisted mess. I wish Microtech had made a solid clip for the LCC instead of the one with holes in it.

This summer I "lost" my new random task, I looked for it all afternoon retracing my steps. I gave up and went out to finish cutting the grass on the rider, low and behold there it was hanging on a bush like christmas tree ornament. A week later the same thing happened it got caught on a bush, except this time I knew where to look .. I don't wear it in my left rear pocket while cutting grass anymore.

Always, counter edges, equipment, furniture, vehicles. Bent the clip on my UDT last week in my van by snagging one of the belts that hangs down, dangit!

EVERY DAY !..........I work in a hardware store with many tight corners.........so I end up leaving my AFCK clipped to things every so often.........kind of funny when you turn around and see your knife hanging there.........kind of

yes, mostly if its in my right pocket. in the left pocket not yet. luckly i'm left handed.

Looks like pocket clips doing their job 'too good' has been a problem for others too...not just me. When I started wearing clip knives the probem became apparent early on, anything in close proximity became a target for damage...walls, doors, cars, steering wheels...you name it. It didn't take me long to adapt to another carry...still #1 carry position, IWB, just right of center, at first belt loop, clipped in behind belt, canted at about 45' under first belt loop. BM710 is primary but many others wear well in this position. I can crawl in and out of vehicles all day with nary a concern with this method. Today I probably sat in over 30 vehicles...not unusual...but with a regular pocket carry something would have been at considerable risk; the clip, my pocket, the seat, the wheel, the door. With the iwb...no problem.

The one and only time I caught my clip was while doing TOWER work some 80 feet above the ground!!! My REKAT pioneer II clip caught my safety teather, and pulled it awkwardly. It didn't do any harm...but it made me VERY uneasy-caught me and pulled me back towards the tower suddenly. SCARED the hell out of me...

From that point on, while working high and strapped, I put my knife inside my waist band, for here, it is under a belt, and never catches on anything!!!

HELL OF A WAKE UP CALL!!!

My wife has had to replace the clip on her Syderco 'Q' three time after catching it on a door strike plate.
there is also a nasty scratch in my car door from my EDI.
Spyderco was kind enough to send several replacement clips for the "Q". That's great customer service.
