Ever Snagged Your Pocket Clip?

Scratch paint off doorjams all the time. I try to be careful around cars, except when they ding my door or park on the bumper. Then I don't pay attention to where my clip hits. I haven't damaged any clips yet, but two friends who don't read this board have. One bent his Police clip way out, catching it on a doorframe. The other caught his Endura clip on something (I can't remember what it was) and messed up the zytel. He wasn't too pleased about that since it was his first Spyderco, and he's not a knife knut.

I posted this before- The lining of my 3/4 length leather jacket has a nice hole in it where the clip of my Wegner has rubbed it- once during "Happy Hour" I was looking for it- legit reason- had to cut a cigar or something- & my knife was GONE- Very Unhappy for the rest of the evening- was on an extremely crowded train earlier & thought it got lifted by a nimble-fingered citizen (those not in NYC may not believe how crowded subways can get on a rainy day in December at 5:45 on a Friday). Long story short: found it clipped to the liner of the jacket. I am Very Careful now. Now I just try not to bump into things & scratch them up...

Glad you are still with us Dangelo.
I agree : I always (with knives closed < 4 1/2 inch) wear knives clipped inside the waistband with the clip under my belt (and an additional knife on an inside pocket of a suit/jacket).
Not the fastest access, but at least the knife is still there when I need it !
So far no accidents ...

Rugger I have had almost the exact same thing happen to me. My knife got clipped some loose threads of my jacket. I went berserk looking for it. Found it about a week later hanging from my jacket by a tread.

Snaggged a Spyderco Delica (old model) on a doorway striker plate. Snapped it right off. Got a new model now.

I snagged my UDT on a garbage bag but didn't realize it until I took the bag out to the trash can. I am just happy that I saw it hanging from the bag before I threw it in.

It would have driven me nuts looking for it. I also have caught the door on my corvette. OUCH!!!

How do you guys manage to do that? I've carried clipped knives for 3 years on my right pocket and no accidents!

I scratched the paint on my Marauder motorcycle with my Kershaw Ken Onion Speed safe Knife. I was so mad I threw it in the bushes. I later retrieved it and then scratched the paint on my camaro. I hate pocket clips.

Snagged the clip on my "AA" pelican light. Scratched car door, clip flew off, bought another one to replace the damaged torch..

I put a 1/4" scratch on the side of the gas tank of my absolutely mint condition Ducati with the clip of my small Sebenza. I was walking along side, pushing the bike into my garage and forgot about the knife clipped to my pocket. I touched it up, but the thought of it still makes me cringe.

I only got the clip hung once. I was sitting down in the tiny chairs at the dentist's and got my Endura clip stuck on one of the arms. That was it. When that happened the clip flipped up, ripping the handle and causing it to be for ever loose. Now, if it gets caught on something, it just rotates instead of scratching or gouging.

I've bent the hell out of a Gerber A-F covert clip...twice. Fixed it, but not as good as new.

I've bent a Spyderco Native clip twice. Spyderco's design is really easy to remove and fix. It's as good as new.

Note to self and all:

If you're in close quarters, and you have the situational awareness to know you're in tight quarters, and you have a free hand, get into the habit of 'covering' the clip with your hand as you move through (the doorway, the garage, etc.). similiar to the way a cop will cover his sidearm when walking through a crowd. You might skin a knuckle, but it's a good awareness & retention excercise anyway.

No problem. After a couple months of wearing my Endura I started to rest my hand on it in a crowd anyway. If I step on some guy's Puma and he wants to start something I know there'll be a satisfying 'snick' as soon as I feel diplomacy has failed.

The only thing that I have done is scratch the front face plate of an amplifer. Sure did piss myself off with that one.

Yes, that's why I came to hate the first model Syderco Enduras and Delicas and the Q. The d**ned plastic clips on the Enduras and Delicas kept stretching and I lost just too many of them, so I gave up on them until Spyderco came out with the new models. Those are great. The Q has this silly little spring clip, which pops out when it catches on something. After I lost two of them, I gave up on the knife. It seemed like a neat idea, but it didn't work.

I've done that before with the same knife- it makes a distinctive "piiiiiiiing" as it goes flying. I didn't keep that knife long.

Bent the the clip almost all the way off of my Lightfoot Lcc the day I got it. The clip caught on the arm of a chair. I sent it back to Microtech they said they would fix it if I paid shipping. Hope the put a little stronger clip on

When I was evaluating the Kasper AFCK, I took a bunch of skin off my thumb with the grip tape stuck to the clip.

My solution to clips getting caught is pretty simple, I tighten the clip and I bend the opening on the end down, makes the knife slightly harder to pocket, but usually no more snags and they work themselves out less often too.
