Ever stopped someone and asked what they're carrying?

There are some really good stories floating around this thread. I didn't expect it to get to 5 pages. I appreciate the responses, so keep 'em coming!

At school one of the tech people had some kershaw in his pocket and I talked to him about it for a little bit, and a teacher had a leatherman and I chatted with him for a minute :)

I haven't had too many experiences like this. I've started noticing other peoples pocket clips but often its in class or other situations where I wouldn't really be able to ask them, besides any other awkwardness. I did end up talking knives with this weird guy a few years back when I was looking at knives at walmart. He said the whole thing about new stainless steel knives being crap because magnets will stick to them, which is total bullshit because it just depends on the steel. He showed me his fanny pack and implied he was carrying, and told me about his sawed off shotgun he duct taped a flashlight. Not sure if he was just a bullshitter or a crazy person but it was an interesting encounter.
