Ever surprised by what's in your pocket?

Yep. Depends how I go to bed the night before. Meaning how coherent I was …. or not :)

Note that it has also happened a couple of times that my wife has found a folder in the morning when making the bed.

Nope. My knives get put away at the end of the day and I spend to much time some mornings picking out knives for the day.

Ive not reached in and found a different one than I was expecting but I have found on occasion a second (third) I didn't know I had.
This, for me as well.
With the transition into jacket weather, I often find myself with an extra knife - that isn't the surprise, though, as it's usually intentional. The surprise is when I find that I have an extra extra knife (and I always feel a bit self conscious when that happens), or when the extra knife is found in a different pocket than expected.
Occasionally, I'll find that two knives have swapped pockets, that one usually gives me pause - trying to sort out when/why it happened. (This, when it happens, is almost always a jacket-rfp swap; so it takes some extra steps)

Man, this one time it really got me good.
I got lumped into this scheme a few years ago, these out-of-towners came through looking to re-open a mining operation and they needed technicians to deal with some of the logistics. It was a sh*tshow from day one. Long story short, a few weeks into this fiasco I found myself half-blacked out in a cave, in the middle of rap battle with some sort of wizened aquatic cannibal, who kept asking, "what has it got in its pocketses?" I had no idea, I had forgotten, but turns out it was some kind of ring.

I often forget that in addition to my Spyderco Tasman Salt (left front pocket) and Kershaw Livewire (right front watch pocket) and SAK (left front pocket, loose), I also have burried at the bottom of my right front pocket my Spyderco Ladybug ZDP-189 and in my right cargo pocket a Benchmade Bugout 535-3. The Bugout is so slim and light I forget it's there, and the Ladybug is a Ladybug.

You can take the dirty jokes to W&C where I will appreciate them greatly.

So it happens sometimes that I'm out and about and reach for my knife, thinking I know what knife is coming out of my pocket, but I'm surprised to find it's a different knife from my arsenal.
This happened to me yesterday where I expected to produce an Opinel #6 but I found my Case large stockman instead.
I think back to earlier that morning and then I remember how I made the choice I made and it all makes sense.
Only once was it a case where I just picked up a knife without looking.

Does this ever happen to you?
Yep. I only rotate 3 knives, and randomly.
Once I grabbed my knife and went to flip it open and realized there's no flipper haha. 2 of the 3 are flippers and one isn't.

Happens to me all the time.

I have a system. I keep 4 sets of pants hanging in my cellar way. All set up to wear, depending on the weather or my activity. When they are dirty, I set up a clean pair, to hang up.

Work pants
Long jeans
Short jeans
Overalls

I just move my wallet phone and my keys. Each pair has a big knife on the belt and a little knife in the pocket . It might be a week or more after I put the knife in the pocket that I wear those pants.

Typical day, could be could be work all day. Hang up work pants take shower, put on long jeans go for a motorcycle ride, come home, put on jean shorts, get called back to work change into work pants.

Long story short, I never am 100% sure what knife will come out of my pocket. Even the 110 on my belt might be stag, finger groove, diamond wood. It’s sometimes a surprise. Or I reach for my Buck 110 and find a Buck 212 (or other fixed blade)

All the time, every jacket I put on I pick a knife to take out with me and invariably there is one or two already in the jacket,/rucksack/trousers.
I even, once or twice, picked up clean jeans or trousers and there has been a a nice clean shiny knife already in the pocket.

Washed and Ironed.

I guess I might elaborate that I go through phases where I carry one knife for weeks, then randomly decide to change it up one day. Change is the spice of life, but I’m a creature of habit.

Yes, I do this a lot because I start playing with my knives at night and will often change my mind several times. Then the next morning I stop and think, which one did I put in my pocket?

At my age I am more surprised when it is NOT in my pocket!

"Do you have a knife?"

"Sure...umm, well no, I forgot it again."

Forgot your knife again? Go stand in the corner. :)

The only surprise I find in my pocket is money, as it's so rarely found in there.

This is me too.
