Ever thought about selling them all?

I went from between 90 and 100 to 20 or less right now. The quality went up but the numbers went WAY down.

No, not yet. I haven't had one thought of selling them. I'm sure I will want to sometime, it's just all the knives I have are knives I really like. I am not sure I really want to get rid of any of them.

I definitely have a batch of knives that will always be mine and will end up in a pawn shop after I die, but other than those few everything else could go in the scrap heap tomorrow and I'd feel no sense of loss.

This was mentioned before, thinning yes, but then after you start playing with them again, I just cannot make up which ones to sell. I have decided to try and use alot more of them to try new things and gain new knowledge and enjoy them in new ways.

Think about this everyday. Glad I'm not the only one. I feel as you do, was really into em, stopped then dive back in, no outside support either, well my brother but we have different thoughts on knives. Anyway, I feel your pain brodda,

The problem for me is I have a bunch that I enjoy carrying and using, they become favorites and get rotated. The others get stowed away.
Like many of you , I have too many to ever carry them all.

I do sell off batches from time to time especially if I haven't used a knife and it become collectible. I've only missed maybe one or two ( that I re bought). I would never sell them all, but would do fine with a fraction of what I've accumulated.

I have some I want to sell...nothing wrong with that, tastes/use change.

I think for a lot of us its the journey more than the destination...so sell away! You can restart once you thin out your herd and maybe help out a few people who want what you have at the moment.

i not only will never consider selling any of my blade inventory, i pretty much have reached the end of buying NEW folders and fixed knives...i have every type that i could possibly need for any situation and am satisfied with what i own...there is only ONE folder that i might consider getting, but it has to be available, first, and at the right price, second; and it is not a priority by any means.

i actually have bought 3 new low-cost folders, but they are strictly for future gift giving and will stay unopened in their packaging until then.

kitchen knives; that's another category...would like a new chef's and/or santuku knife, so i'm looking...

you sound like my twin.
only I sold off a lot and only kept 4 or 5 knives
Hello guys,

From time to time i think about selling all or most of my knives and end with this "disease" once and for all!
You see, i collect knives since i was a kid but stopped for years until i found youtube reviews and these kind of forums.
When i found out that there were lots of knife nuts like me i restarted buying knives but this time "quality" knives of all the brands we are now used to.
However, in my social life, besides the internet, i have no friends nor family that has the bug.
Also, knives are completely useless in my line of work and most of the time i carry a knife just because i like it.
Of course, there are moments when it's needed but those are very rare and the tasks that i need it for hardly requires an XM-18:D
So i sometimes think about selling them all or just keep one or two:)
When i think about selling i think what i could buy with the money and quite frankly the things that come up to my mind are stuff that i really couldn't care much, like clothes or stuff like that.
I could use it also to pay the bills of course but i'm fortunate enough not to really need the money for that kind of stuff.

I really don't know what responses i'm trying to get here but have you guys ever thought of it?

I have thought about selling everything besides the zt30Xs. However I'm not a fan of paypal. I'm more of a money order kind of guy.

Thing is, of all the knives I've had the pleasure of owning, from Busse and CRK, to Strider and a few customs, I've never been Beckerless. I think it's the value/design/Ethan ratio that keeps me on board.

I didn't think about selling all my knives. I cannot sell all, but I am thinning the herd for last couple years. Otherwise i will not be able to afford any new knives. :(

I got rid go about 3/4 of my knives, about 2/3 of my guns, and it felt great. I only keep a small handful of knives and a couple of guns and just use the heck out of what I keep. I felt liberated.
Carl.

I do have a few I want to sell, but for the most part I love all my mid/high end production folders. My day to day life doesnt command the need to own 20 different production folders. But variety is the spice of life, even if they are mostly full flat ground spydercos.

I only have one fixed blade and one traditional so those are something I need more of in the future. And I need a better axe/hatchet. And jeez those japanese santokus look nice. Did someone say koster bushcraft? ;)

You sound just like me. I actually think more of selling in the mornings and more of buying in the evenings. Wierd! It has taken me so long to acquire my collection, I would have a hard time selling them all. I have a hard enough time selling just one that I never even use. I justify my collection/obsession by not having any other hobby (well, except my other hobbies: guns, tools, motorcycles, etc.).
Many of mine are fixed blades that I never or will never really even carry. Some are almost too nice/expensive to use. I am a teacher, so I don't even get to carry at work and at home the only reason I even need one is to open packages of new ones I get in the mail. I understand your frustration!
I too often think about selling them all (close to $10,000 worth), but just can't do it! I love my collection and enjoy looking, shopping, etc. It's one of the few vices I have. If I didn't do this, what else would it be?

Glad i'm not alone in this one:)
Thanks for the replies guys.

I hear what you all say about thinning the collection down but my collection was never big.
The max of knives i ever had was 15 i believe! Over here they are more expensive:)
I actually haven't spend more money in knives for a while now.
What i did, and still do i guess, was to buy several so i could experiment and see what i like the most and then keep on trading for others, only keeping the ones i really like.
I had some good and bad deals but an overall positive experience nonetheless:)
There aren't places here to buy any of the US brands so i try them only when they arrive. I always have to import!
This always takes days. From Europe is between 5-8 days to arrive and from the US is always 10 or more! Sometimes the knives arrive in different condition than what you were expecting. I'm not complaining but it is an exausting process sometimes.
I believe this is also helping for this phase.

Getting ready to sell off five of my nine to buy one more CRK. Not a very big collection. Knifeology 101 which consists of these forums, and hands on experience has led me to where I am at right now. At my age I find myself not needing stuff just laying around I not going to use. I seem to be content with my Sebenza, and a Para 2 (for now).
