Ever thought about selling them all?

Thinning the heard down a lot yes, selling them all, nope.

This. I have been recently downsizing my collection as I've been getting more into mid-techs/customs. Selling/trading my lower-end stuff to fund bigger yet fewer purchases. I am much happier with fewer high-end knives that I will carry instead of a bunch of cheaper ones that just take up space. But, I Know I will never sell ALL of them....that's just crazy talk! :D

Selling them all? How would I cut stuff?

I do need to downsize and I'll get around to it in the next few years. I'm creeping up on being eligible to retire and I could probably use the cash more than a bunch of unused knives once my income drops.

I haven't downsized. I upsized in a spurt. I now have knives I "can't" sell: PM2's and Militaries in super-steels. No common stuff here. Yikes!

All of 'em? No Way!
Some of 'em? Sure. But then I think, mine are used, kinda scratched, been sharpened - who's going to want that? Plus, I have my eyes on one particular one, and to get there I'd need to sell a couple that I use and wish to keep.
So, they stay in place.
But I only have about 20. Not all get used much, but all are users - just some are stashed in gloveboxes and equipment bags, and are usually overlooked in favor of the one in my pocket.

Sell all - No way. But there is a cycle to the sickness - buy, trade, sell then start over again.

nope, I want to amass THOUSANDS of knives by the time I croak and divvy the collection out amongst grandchildren and nieces/nephews. THE DISEASE WILL LIVE ON!!

I might if I were in dire need of money, with that being said the vast majority of my knives are just run of the mill production stuff so I'd loose money pretty badly.

Yeah, I've tought about it once or twice.

I usually buy a bunch of knives, use some, sell most of them, and then go back to buying again. I've managed to go a decent stretch without buying any knives and have sold off quite a few... One way or another though, a) there are a couple that wouldn't be worth the effort to sell, b) there are some that I use all the time, so I wouldn't want to sell all of my knives.

Still, I think if I could get my collection down to about 4 total - fixed blades, multi-tools, folders - and then keep it that way, that'd be a good number to have.

Yes! All of the time I think of selling them all off and using the money for something else.
But... what would I use it for? Probably to buy a high end/Semi custom knife... I need help lol.
I could just sell off only the Kershaws and buy a damn Umnum + Extras. Will I do it? Probably not.
I could sell off all of the collection but my beloved Spyderco Chokwe and some others and buy an XM-24 Flipper. Will I do it? Again... probably not.

I once got so into SAK's I had a collection of around 40.
I had 20+ traditionals
About 10 folders
3 fixed blades
4 balisongs
and some odds and ends lol.

I've downsized I don't know how many times and always get myself back up. It just happens.
I have no idea why or how. It just does lol.

Maybe if I got rid of all of them and bought one hell of a knife... I'd be done.

I have pared down my collection to about 15 total, and kept the "Classics". (BM 556, Spyderco Endura, Leek..etc.) and a few special ones. I have had a recent run of some Cold Steel stuff that I really like, but my "collector" days are over. I don't own a knife worth more than about $70.00 anymore, they are all users. There are always going to be knives that I think I have to have, but I have grown weary of spending anymore $ on things I don't need.

kinda funny, this thread put me in a mood to try and pair down to a minimum i haven't had since starting those in bold are almost word for word with my "minimalist" list..not including fixed blades

Mantzao,

I can't tell you how disturbing this thread is to me. At your urging, I got custom scales for my mini grip. Then - you convinced me to take the plunge on the xm-18. Your last few posts have me thinking about the insingo.
Now you want me to divest?!!
Yeah - I do think about it too. But hassles aside - there is still a certain joy that I am not willing to give up.

My last knife is going to be the 0560... I'd probably have it but I'm waiting for it to be easily available.

In less than a year I've spent an embarrassing amount of money on blades.... and haven't sold one.

Exactly. I tried selling all of them once, even a old Ladybug for $10. The down cycle lasted about a year, then the sickness came on like a vengeance. So I'll proabably just try to keep the number low to keep things in check. Before I sold everything, the range went from $75 to $150. I started again at $160+, with my most expensive now being at $550. I hate to see what would happen (to my wallet) if I did that again.

At the moment, 9 folders (not including one on order) and 5 fixed blades.

I think we have all thought about it but we just can't pull the trigger and then start the madness all over again.! Besides that who wants to buy my
Seb's and Engraved Spydie Kris's and Persians and then the Para's and Mil's ~~ ect. -- ect. ??

So we just buy more and talk like we are going to sell all.!

Sorry if i mislead your collection in any way:D
I own no Ritter now friend but the XM and the Insingo are still my favourite so if i ever let them go they will be the last one to.
Currentely i own an enlan M025, Sanrenmu 710, a Cold Steel American Lawman, a Spyderco Paramilitary 2, Benchmade Mini Rukus 615, large Regular Sebenza, small sebenza 21, small Insingo and a 3" flipper XM-18 but had others.

Still figuring out what to do!

Yes all the time. I really want to get rid of 95% of my knives. The bad thing is, that most of them are users, and are under 100$ new, so I`d have a hard time selling them. I`m not looking to make a quick bang, its just my inner minmalist that wants to get rid of everything that is not used every day.

I recently sold most and put a nice chunk of change in the bank. I just kept a few favorites. It was a good move for me; a guy with an addictive personality, ADD and one who loves knives!
