The recent thread remembering those that had passed stirred some feelings in me. Add that to today's Fathers Day holiday, where both my dad and my father-in-law are gone, so all that had me feeling a little melancholy.

Ever since that thread, I was thinking of something I had in my leftovers bins. Seems to me that some time back, a member sent me 2 knives. One knife was a 47P116 that the blade had been modded by our own Bob Bendell BigBiscuit BigBiscuit from a pruner to a sheepsfoot. The member liked the covers on that knife, but wanted a different blade in it. He was generous enough to let me keep the modded blade and leftover parts. I had held onto those parts, knowing that I might do something with them later on, so flash forward to present day.

I took the guts, found some nice light-reddish stag (that I dyed a little darker brown), and pulled everything together. Now truthfully, I was quite taken with how it came out, and really thought about hanging onto it. However, I have many knives to carry, so I wouldn't want it to just sit there not getting used, so I'm hosting a giveaway for this knife.

Now keep in mind that this knife is a bit of a mutt/frankenknife, so it has no real collector value as a pattern. But it is a nice knife, and even more special because of what it is made up of. So that's what you will win, a blade modded by our own BigBiscuit, with my personal touch added to it.

Now the rules:

Regular contributors of the Traditional subforum only, please.
Please enter only if you are going to keep/use the knife. I'd rather not see it for sale later.

Entry is easy. Pictures of knives are always welcome, but I want you to speak about a member(s) of the "Porch" that you are thankful are here with us, and that you feel their contributions to the forum help to make this a great place to hang out. It could be something as simple as they answered a question about a knife, or posted pics of their wonderful collections, or just shared a funny story. Include as many or few as you wish. Remember there are no wrong answers! Multiple entries are okay, but don't go overboard.

Here's the knife...

I'll start with Carl J jackknife . I am so thankful for his contributions, particularly his wonderful stories. Those tales bring me back to a time when I was young and didn't have much to worry about. They also give me a nice distraction from the stress of the day, and I can enjoy those stories any time I need a break, so thanks!

I'd also like to thank Gary Peregrin Peregrin and Frank knarfeng knarfeng for all the hard work they do to keep us misfits in line! You are appreciated!

There are so many others, I could go on and on, but would probably end up listing everyone who is a regular contributor here.

Good luck and have fun!

That's great work of yours and Bob's. Beautiful knife and a great GAW.
Not an entry.

but don't go overboard.
Great work, Glenn, and a real work of BF memorabilia!! Of course there are several key people here who keep us interested, informed and entertained!! And some past members to remember!!🤔
But here with us now is an incredible stalwart, whose relentless efforts have help knit this community into what it is!!👍
His efforts have resulted in many active followers, and his efforts have kept one of the longest running threads he started a wonderful place to hang out!!
He also inspired many of us, including my dream of having a Lambsfoot knife produced in America!!
Now you all know it is of course to Jack Black Jack Black that I wish to pay tribute, and to thoroughly embarrass with excessive, but well deserved accolades!!! ;)
Who has not heard from him and been encouraged, in response to your own post??
I seldom enter a GA, but this is one I cannot pass up!
And of course, I will do my best to wear that GA knife out!!:cool:Guardians Logo 1.jpg

There are so many members here that I am truly thankful to get to know through the forum.
The list is too large and I'd be afraid to leave anybody out. So for now, I'll have to do some thinking about who I want to single out.

Thank you, Glenn, any knife of yours is a treasure to be desired, especially as it will honor the memory of BigBiscuit. I think of you and Eric (ea42) as cutlers who have answered many technical questions and provided many treasures to the porch faithful, including myself.

I am grateful to all our mods, including Gus and Elliott, who presided when I first joined BFC, and our current guides Gary and Frank.

And of course two of our leading citizens, Charlie (waynorth) and Jack (Jack Black) for their contributions in time and expertise in providing so many great knives and posts about knives for our consumption.

I think Mike knifeswapper knifeswapper deserves a nomination here as he has contributed to this forum with his coordination and support with multiple annual BF knives and his forward thinking with his line of knives from Italy. I believe that had it not been for Mike, we wouldn't have had a 2020 Blade Forums Knife.

Further, it was Mike who coordinated with Bill Howard for a SFO Sodbuster which led the way for the Bull Nose and Bull Buster knives which, look much like the knife offered by Glenn - note the F&F rivet on the give away knife. Pictured is the first knife of it's pattern offered by GEC - Mike's SFO.

This is a wonderful give away Glenn.

I’d like to thank paulhilborn paulhilborn . His posts have taught me more than I can say, and given me appreciation for knives I’d otherwise overlook. He sent me a SAK just because I said I hadn’t had the best luck with them.

Started out like this:

But as you can see, I’ve carried it a bit:

Completely changed my mind on SAKs in general, and it was all due to the kindness of one caring gentleman who took the time and had the generosity to open my eyes.

I'm in, if allowed... I don't post much anymore, but I do carry at least ONE classic daily, sometimes two. My fave porch poster here is J jackknife . His posts, especially the story posts, are gold. Plus, he's a pipe smoker... that gets major points in my book. Carl, I'll share a smoke with you anytime. Thank you for your generosity.

Great idea for a giveaway, Glenn!

Here are a few guys who are always contributing with either awesome info or friendliness, or both and have not yet been named:

H herder who has provided amazing stuff on Henkels knives

JohnDF JohnDF who always has encouragement to offer.

meako meako who brings the humor at the best times.

Prester John Prester John for his kind support.

Old Engineer Old Engineer for amazing knives.

And there are others but I’d better stop for a minute.

aw shucks...but cheers I definitely deserve the accolade. I would like to make special mention to r8shell r8shell Rachel...for being kind enough to shout me gold membership when mine ran out ...at a time when I was in a poor state of mind ..homeless and completely exhausted....This wonderful kind act from someone I have never met was priceless to me....Thanks Again Rachel and if its OK with Glenn this entry is on your behalf.
cheers

Wow! Any Knife that Bob had to do with- would mean an awful lot to me, I had quite a few discussions over the Phone with Bob, and it was quite distressing when he started to, and then eventually did fade away from us.

So in saying that the pure selfishness of me wants that Knife so so badly because Bob modded it- and man... he wasn't scared of Modding a Knife I can tell you!

Glenn I am just posting this because it would be quite unfair of me to enter as I already own and love a Knife that our mate Bob Modded, I also have a wonderful HJ that Bob gifted me too, so who would I be if I wanted another when others whom admired Bob just as much haven't a knife that has Bob's DNA all over it.

Its actually very sad posting this, as I remember my last talk with Bob, and then his last message to me, I want to Thank Bob for touching our Hearts, for being a friend, for being part of our Traditonals here that he has left a little bit of himself behind that will last for a long, long time, a quality guy was Bob.

Its also extremely hard to mention names of people who are so very important - because there are so many, and there are so many who have helped me, held their breath at times when I am desperately trying to get my head around learning about some of these amazing Knives and their History.

1, Our Mods, Gary and Frank- man the work these guys do and what they have to put up with, a few of us decided to chip in and buy them something as a way to say thanks - because yes they are Mods and have to give us a shake now and then, - I've received a couple from them over the years - but also when they pick up those Knives I hope they Know that because they are Mods, we still see them as our Knife Brothers. Thank you guys very much. To our early Mods, Gus and Blues - just slogging away with no thanks- you guys are great.

2, Jack Black as Charlie has mentioned, Jack is a friend of mine so this is Bias as hang, but Jack is our Jack, he is a man who deserves one heck of a lot more recognition because he to me is that man on the Battlefield - still waving that Sheffield Flag, that Flag is torn and tattered and shot to hell, yet he will not let the World forget, I saw this in this man as he gave Sue and I a most awesome day touring Sheffield, ( and then me by myself in York a few years after )walking over Resealed Streets, that where the Tar-seal was peeling away from the rich History of the Centuries old Cobblestones buried beneath- I still see that as a travesty in itself. Jack your an amazing, wonderful Human Being so thank you for who you are my friend, Im glad your my mate.

3, I feel that this name will be mentioned a few times as well as Jacks, - Mr, CC himself, Charlie I also consider a friend, we have dined together and Charlie and Joanne were so wonderful to invite us into their Home and we had the delight of Charlies Culinary skill set put to work - it was a fantastic Dinner with fantastic people, seeing that lovely couple again at the GEC Rendezvous was yet another highlight.
Charlie is many things, a World recognized Collector, a very well versed man on the History of Knives, but what I like best of all about Charlie is that he is a wonderful Human Being who deserves nothing but good things, again I consider Charlie a friend, I enjoy our talks over the Phone, and I enjoy him just being around all of us. Your a good guy Charlie who helps many people, and I am proud of knowing such good people like you and Jack.

4, Mr Paul Hilborn, he has given me more Knives that he has had Hot Dinners, he always comes back at the amount I have given him- I think he wins quite clearly though, Hey- Knife brothers give each other Knives- it is what we do - and what we do a lot. Paul and I are very good friends and we talk all the time, message each other and I would be embarrassed if these come to light as our sense of Humour is a little twisted to say the least lol, Paul very on shined out as a darned good Human Being- this guy cares, he has gifted many Knives to many People, and is such a decent guy, a very loving family man with massive amounts of amazing awesome Morals. Im proud to call him my Brother and my friend- I think because of Pauls great gifting nature a lot can say the same about him.

5, Dave Gentry- Knowtracks - I have had a few great discussions with Dave, met him at the GEC Rendezvous was just a matter of meeting my mate and getting to physically shake his hand and set that in stone for me. Dave gifted me several Knives I still have a Card on it where Dave wrote such a nice message I could NEVER loose that card, Dave is such a nice guy that he probably wont even remember that message - I could recite it to you.
Here's a neat story, I was just looking at these Knives last night as they are most precious to me, well, I had spotted this Case 10 dot STUNNING Stag MINT Folding Hunter - this knife was being sold by Tom- an awesome guy who we had several hard case discussion with- and Dinner at the Rendezvous- well I am from NZ, the dollar exchange HURTS me more than you know - I loose 50% of my money when I buy a Knife- so if I am looking at a $450 knife- I am in reality looking at a Thousand Dollar Knife, well .... this Knife I had to have, I tried getting Tom to move- and Tom is the real deal- he could sell Ice to the Eskimo and make a huge profit- but what he sells, its a good Knife believe me, anyway Tom wasn't moving.... so the next day we sat down at the table again- there was Dave with Us, Paul Hilborn with us - and Tom and I staring each other down lol, I tried to move Tom - but I just couldn't, Then........ I just don't Know what happened but Tom went Down $50!!, instantly Dave smashed down $50 on the Table to throw in for me as well- I was kinda blindsided by these awesome guys being so amazing I protested- Dave promptly told me to shut up lol - when Dave tells you that you kinda listen 🤣,THEN... Paul smashes his $50 down on the table..... I have tears filling up as I type this, NEVER will I forget this, and I felt this when I handled my beautiful Knife last night and relived this.
Man I love you guys, that was a moment that will stay with me forever, so Tom, Dave and Paul - my friends- thank you so so much, I look forward to seeing you again -soon.

6, Glenn, you are another great guy on this Planet, you are a generous guy - so thank you for doing this and letting a unique Blade slip through your fingers like Bob's, not only this but many times your generosity has been mentioned, you have looked after me by doing the most amazing work and looking after me by charging not nearly enough for your stunning work, not only me but many, many other people as well my friend, I wish I had your talents so I could put that Skill set to work to try to do just a fraction of what you do - Thank you Glenn.

7, I want to thank Ron for being the real nice guy he was, what a pleasure meeting him and his lovely Wife, what a shame Ron had to leave so so soon, Ron somehow if yo could hear these thoughts I hope matey your travels continue.

8, Great people in here Like Cal - another cool guy, a very knowledgeable guy who again like so many here- doesnt let it get to his Head- he is just a great guy, a good Knife friend and one who I value to have among us - thank you Cal, this goes for the good Salts like Harry and Rob as well those two guys are just awesome, Augie, Lyle, Lloyd are another three very fine gentleman who have to be mentioned - SUCH good people. Lostball - someone who we havent seen in a while is someone who we haven't seen for some time- but what a great guy- just a great guy!

9, A lot of people know a guy called Herder here, - man it was a pure pleasure meeting Herder - Paul and I drove for a few hours as did Herder and we met halfway and we had our own smaller Rendezvous at a restaurant and had a great afternoon talking Knives, Showing Knives, gifting Knives- Herder gifted both Paul and I a signed copy of his Book, this was a beginning of a good friendship, so I want to thank Herder personally and also for all that he does to and for the Knife World - I wonder if people like Herder and the above mentioned know just how much they are appreciated? A good friend!

10, Mike Roebuck - another Author in our midst! and another really nice guy with it, I always enjoy Mikes's posts, his Knowledge he shares and the being a good person that he shares also - its a very real pleasure to know and to have Mike as a Good Knife mate - Mike I haven't had the pleasure of meeting in person, but I feel I already Know him, and its a matter of time- one day soon I very much Hope.

11, Meako, Our mad Australian friend, man do we need more people in the World like our Meako - who can look at the bright side of life, I thank Meako for the laughs he has given us as well as his wisdom too - which is kind a strange for an Aussie as usually you wouldn't say that about them lol, seriously - Meako you are a Champion, do not stop being our mate - please!

Im scared of stopping because there are so many more that need to be mentioned, but if I have talked to you over pm's, or through Threads Thank you for making Traditionals such an awesome true place. Thank you everyone!

I'll have to come back tomorrow to post a longer post.

For now, I'll let this be a placeholder.

I would love to have a Franken Knife with both Bob's stamp and yours Glenbad!! Especially one with such tasty stag....

But I think others would deserve it more. I have a knife from Bob to pass on to my own son Bob.....

The Case knife is one Bob sneakily sent me. I was trying go do a good deed by giving him a TC, when I saw he was selling off much of his collection towards the end. Of course, he had to fire a knife off in retaliation!!

YnkXwDz.jpg

And I have a lovely modded stockman with the Bollocks shield from you!! (Please ignore the non traditional in this photo...I find I don't have a solo pic to hand (it was in my pocket the prior two weeks!!

qgqeN55.jpg

So I will abstain from this giveaway (though my fingers itch to carry and use that knife!!)

This thread made me go back and read my messages exchanged with Bob!
He is missed here.

I'd also like to thank Flymon....for luring me in here with a gifted GEC 23.... hooked me better than any fish I have ever reeled in!!

If I can, I'd like to give my entry to Waynorth!!

He has done so much for this community. Done so many giveaways (including to me), and has brought us many instant "new" classics to enjoy!!

This not an entry because I was already a very lucky winner from your contest last year. I would like to take the time to thank and nominate you, Glenn, for making the porch a better place with your generosity, knowledge and skill. Here is a photo of my 44 Glenn modded for me as a prize. It is my favorite.

As one who is still fairly new and unknown on the Forum, there are a couple people who stand out (and a couple have already been mentioned)
waynorth waynorth for his fine knives, being so active, pushing us to do the right thing, pushing us forward and, most recently, seeing we get yet another forum knife
knifeswapper knifeswapper again for helping get us forum knives, helping get us knives, vast knowledge of knives and generally just a good guy.
Pàdruig Pàdruig it started with selling him a knife, but he has such a vast array of knives and knows all about them, takes great photos and has led me down the path of some good drinking material.

And generally to everyone for being such great forum friends whether via information, a good honest deal or whatever helps anyone in anyway.
