Everyone - Read This - Sellers especially

Not to just keep jumping on you Stacy, but it seems we are not allowed to post in our own threads until 72 hours after our own original post so two threads IS two posts. Please correct me if I misunderstood the 72 hour rule. On a side note I would prefer it if my happy customers could say so in my thread, thats what good custome service is all about.

Hi Mark , as a dealer you are allowed as many threads as you need . Stacy correct his error in another post but seemed to miss it here . He said he is waiting for a reply from Sparks on your 72 hour rule .

It is a deceptively complicated little problem. Since the intent of the rule is to prevent unnecessary bumps of a thread (which are frequently unproductive and bump other people off the bottom) two posts back to back like that would be harmless. It is a post that changes a threads position on the page that is a problem.

I suppose a variation of the rule would be no posts until after 72 hours unless it is within 15 min of another post. But then that gets complicated.

The simplest thing would be if the threads simply marched on down the page without changing position as posts are added to them. Then everyone could post as much as they want and there would be no bumps ever. That would be simple and it would fix the problem. Then the rule could be - no re listing an item until after 72 hours.

Is it possible to change those forums so that new posts in a thread doesn't move the thread? That would fix the problem and make enforcement moot.

I am certainly happy to follow the rules, I (we) just need to know what they are. I am also happy to wait patiently while they all get hashed out.

It seems to me that it would be better if a seller could answer questions about a product in the thread, instead of individually to each person in an email (or PM) or by editing the original post because unless you did both a person would never know if the question was answered (this could be a real hassle and very time consuming). I can see that some people would use this as a way to bump threads, though I have not seen a huge problem of "thread bumping" in the "knife supplies" part of the "For Sale" forum.

I had missed that, now I see it. Thanks. I am sure everything will be fine (if we talk it out and make it fine)

just change the display option to list threads by the time the threads are started, in descending order, not the time of the last post. But then you can't bump a thread after 72 hours, or at all.

I do this on slickdeals hot deals sub forum, because that is a very fast forum and most deals are time/inventory sensitive.

I have determined that I made an error in informing several dealers that their number of threads was in excess of the limit. Dealers are allowed as many threads as you wish.
I am waiting on an answer from Spark about any exemption from the rule on dealers thread bumping and commenting. If you are a dealer and I sent you a notice by PM, I apologize. Please unlock any threads that you wish to keep active. We will wait on Sparks answer as to the bumping/commenting issue.

(it is actually two weeks)

it would appear that things are back to "normal", folks can post what they want. Just a thread's position doesn't move with new posts. All is good.
