Just received this custom handmade Japanese Shirasaya style tanto (using oak for the sheath & the handle) from Bogdan in Romania today:

I don't normally buy knives of this type but bought it as a "show piece" which I'm going to keep under a vintage hand embroidered Chinese thread "painting" & in front of my cigar box between a pair of figurines (one vintage, one not) on top of my early 80's Danish teak bar here:

--------------------------------

Total length is about 9" & the handle is about 3.5" long.

The blade is 4.5" long with a 4.25" cutting edge which is very sharp & these are the specs of the knife as described by Bodgan:

"The blade is made using 0.14" UHB20C high carbon steel (the cleaner version of 1095), it was clay hardened and hand polished for a spectacular hamon - a very difficult and time consuming process (ask mi finger tips :)).

The habaki is made out of copper (antiqued) and in itself was a real nerves eater to proper fit and finish but in the end i am very happy with the result.

For both the tsuka and the saya, . . . [for this tanto, I used] oak.

The mekugi is made of steel; the knife can be very easily disassembled/assembled."

I am very pleased to add this knife to my collection. ☺️
