Everyone's latest acquisitions!

I always assumed that my first stupid-expensive knife would be a Shirogorov… Wrong! Here is my new Rockstead REN in ZDP-189 @ 66.8 Rockwell with full convex mirror tanto grind. Just came in the mail today. It‘s going to hurt my soul the first time I use this. lol

it only hurts for the first 10 minutes... Chips are forever pain, tho.

Beautiful, Congrats!

Found this old carbon steel kitchen knife at an estate sale, paid a dollar. Maybe I can sharpen it up and give it some life. I do not think I will be able to see the make. I have few other ones I have found over the years, one with a broken handle, I should attempt to re-handle it as a project. There is just something about this old knife I like, maybe the age and patina, the handle is still solid but you can see where the wood as warped away from the handle. Old adage I heard, buy the knife for the knife, do not buy the story that may accompany it, unless there is provenance (still need caution there too). However, I like to imagine it had a good life.

Question, have any of you had a hard time finding old carbon kitchen knives like these? I have had a hard time finding them because maybe I only go to antique stores, and such, and when I do find them, the sellers mark them higher than I am willing to pay. Or maybe it could be because they were used so hard, and sharpened so much that not many survived in semi good condition. they are out ther, just do not look in enough locations.

Beautiful knives, Rocksteads. If experience is any indicator, this probably won’t be your last. I first bought a Chi; was so impressed I purchased a Higo X-IW a month later. Do yourself a favor and make a strop as per Rockstead’s instructions — it’ll do an amazing job of keeping the edge between sharpenings. If you search on BF you’ll find a lengthy Rockstead thread that’s well worth the time to read. Welcome to an entirely new dimension in folders — fixed blades, too, for that matter!
