Everyone's latest acquisitions!

This one I really, really like.

Just picked up a second ZT 0609 completely by accident. I already had one but when I seen it in the store said wow that’s neat and you don’t have one of those. Well turns out I have a brand new one I bought a few weeks ago and now I have another brand new one. Can’t have too many zt’s I guess!!

Where to start.... I've been on the hunt for a REK Knives Sparrow with flint knapped scales since they were released about a year ago. I entered the most recent lotto, but unfortunately wasn't drawn. A few days later and I'm browsing Reddit and what do I see posted for sale!? The very knife I had entered the lotto to purchase! Come to papa!

The knife arrived in a gorgeous, custom, garment-grade, bison leather wrap. Super supple!

Let me be frank. The knife wasn't cheap... and because of that (and my prior experiences with Josh of REK Knives REK Knives ), I had very high expectations for this knife. So high in fact, that I was a little worried I was setting myself up for disappointment. Well, I shouldn't have been concerned. The knife is absolutely incredible. The blade is M390 steel with an impeccable satin finish, and is running on phosphor-bronze washers. I've never felt washers this smooth though. It's like glass! The scales are very, very well done. I love that the pattern is completely unique! If you compare it to the previous Maker's Choice Sparrow, the pattern is completely different. :)

The lockup is as perfect as perfect gets. Zero blade play when opened or closed. Zero detent lash. Perfect centering. Perfect grind. Lots of blade in a tiny package! The jimping is excellent. It raised slightly higher than the scales so that it is useful when the blade is open, without having to extend the jimping into the scales (I hate that).

Speaking of the detent... The location of it is awesome! It's set higher on the knife than most (all?) knives I own. Because of this, there is no "hump" to get over when you close the knife, and no lash that detent ramps can sometimes cause.

I really can't say enough good things about this knife! If you ever get a chance to pick one up, I highly, HIGHLY recommend you do so! It's going to be a feeding frenzy when the mid-tech version of these are released!!!

And of course, a quick video showing off the fit and finish and action of the knife!

This is the 3rd of 3 recent acquisitions of knives that I have been looking for FOR YEARS in order to "complete" a subgroup of knives in my collection.

In this case, it's a black FRN PS Spyderco Native III (C78PSBK).

Note that the Native III does not use the same model number as all other Natives, which are numbered C41 instead. Why? I have no idea but it's clearly denoted as a Native III on both sides of the mold injected FRN scales and on the label of the box that came w/it.

The only problem with the Native III PS is that it doesn't exactly match the Native III PE (C78PBK) that was already in my collection.

The differences are the replacement of the Spydiebug w/the Collector's Club # (apparently because there was not enough room for both on the swedged blade (see the blade of the Native 4 for comparison) and the use of a black instead of uncoated satin clip screw.

Something is better than nothing but because of these differences, I'm not entirely happy with this acquisition and still will be on the look out for a better match. So, unfortunately, the search must continue. 🤷‍♂️

Nonetheless, my collection of Spyderco Natives (for now) includes these 10 knives. :)

From top to bottom:

Native I Black FRN PE GIN1

Native 2 S/S PE AUS10
Native 2 S/S PS AUS10
Native 3 Black FRN PE VG10
Native 3 Black FRN PS VG10

From top to bottom:

Native 4 CF PE VG10
Native 5 Black G10 PE S35VN
Native 5 Fluted CF PE S90V
Native 5 Fluted Ti PE S35VN

And, of course, I know that there are many other Native variations that exist but these are the only ones that I care to collect because think its representative of the Native line (historically) and 10 of anything is more than enough. ;)

Got a new Floral, a blue-donut SD for me and a donut Tinker for my mom, going to make her a carry-case so the pattern does not fade as it is wont to do with these types of embellishments. Also got the most awesome Rough Ryder carbon wharncliffe trapper, I love it. Got that other one, as well, stainless, not as high of quality, but still nice! Nicer than the Case I have seen. This'll do me till when/if it is time to buy GEC.

Wanted to post the complete SAK collection, too. This is only what is "mine", my girl has a few special white ones, and the Tinker, as mentioned, is for me ma.

Ordered a ton of SAKs, though... cheap ones that were going in bundles, advertising ones for weird stuff like Lilly pharma and Lortab... Even scored a Vic Pharmacist! I have some nuts stuff coming and some even more nuts stuff in the works related to SAKs... Better to impulse buy these than Spyderco I tell you what!

Oops, I did it again. Just grabbed this on the exchange. I was not looking for another knife (of course you weren’t, everybody peruses the exchange for no reason, especially not to pounce on something they may be interested in at a good price). I’ve got a cheap pos Chinese OTF that all my butter knives have a better edge. It can’t even open mail. I’ve been kind of sort of half-heartedly looking around for a decent OTF that I can actually use, but pretty much gave up because anything decent is a good bit above what I want to spend. This one was a great price, and has a blackened S35VN blade. I don’t have anything in S35VN, so I really had no choice.
