My daughter's pink Benchmade Mini Griptilain with Spydie-hole Sheepsfoot blade is at least 10 years old, and dirty and gross, so the action is all gummed up. It was her first knife before she went off to college a decade ago. She didn't want to use it anymore, and doesn't like pink for knives now. So today I traded my brand new Spyderco Delica 4 VG-10 Wharncliffe for her Benchmade. She likes a light knife to take with her when she goes on runs, so I keep that in mind when I brought several for her to try out when we met up today.
She rejected the others that I offered to her, including a Pink Spyderco Dragonfly, Purple Civivi Elementum, and Elementum Dessert Warrior because she says she wants "people to take her seriously". I also offered her and she rejected these - a Spyderco Cat (too small), and a QSP Penguin Mini blue denim micarta (too small), and a Firebird FH41 Flipper (she says too hard to open tiny flipper with no thumb hole or studs during an adrenalin rush).
I already installed a less-worn pocket clip on the knife. My son has already called dibs on the pink scales, to install on his yellow Mini Griptilian just for fun? I think his comes back next week from Benchmade after getting their lifesharp warranty service, to clean up some nicks on the blade and sharpen it. I'll probably put his yellow scales on this one and use it, or I might send this off to be cleaned and sharpened under the life sharp warranty too, if it's too bad for me to service.
I also have some NIB marbled carbon fiber scales and some Micarta scales for Mini Griptilian, that I'm thinking of installing on the knife, but not until after it comes back from Benchmade (if I send it in).
This is the knife that she got in return. I just got this Delica 4 on 11/11/22, along with a Para 3 LW black blade, a Yojimbo 2 satin blade (traded that for a Shaman), and a Sencut Watauga from G2. I figure since I already have a Delica 4 drop point in VG-10 and CPM-20CV, that I will replace this Wharncliffe Delica 4 with a K390 version.
