Freeman makes a great knife!

The beginning of what could be a crazy adventure. The retiring Kershaw 3160 and it's first replacement a Benchmade Mini-Barrage. As my neighbor and best friend ages further and further my Kershaw 3160 is becoming too valuable to replace. I'm sure one day I will have his retired next to mine and while I can only pray I won't see that day for many more years. Until then mine will rest safely.

This is a knife that I ordered at the same time when I ordered my Mini-Barrage and I can't tell you how incredibly excited I am to try this thing out. What you are seeing is a Benchmade Hidden Canyon Sitting below the knife it will be replacing in my skinning collection in the Kershaw 1080. There are a few major things here. For one I am moving up from the 14C28N steel to CPM S30V. If I could have got this knife in M390 I would have been all over it and I'll keep my eyes peels for a sprint run.

Everything about the Kershaw 1080 makes for a great skinning knife. The smaller size makes it great for all the fine work and the blade shape is just ideal. The problem is you're sharpening the darn thing half way through one deer regardless of how many microbevels or whatever you put on the "cheap" steel. Don't get me wrong, for what it is, the 1080 is a fantastic knife, but I have been looking for a replacement for it since I began using it. When I saw the shape and styling of the Hidden Canyon I had to press the order button even though I was just browsing and had no intention of purchasing two knives. As you can see this knife offers both slightly more handle room, a better finger guard and a deeper belly. I honestly did not thing the design of the 1080 could be improved upon until I saw this blade, but man did Benchmade deliver. The ribbing on both the back and front of the blade are both extremely comfortable and both positions feel natural. Everything about this blade screams "the perfect skinner" (for me at least) and I can't wait to nail my first GA Whitetail this spring and get to put up a full and honest review about this knife's performance. Man will I be disappointed if it doesn't perform up to expectation, but I'm having a hard time seeing how it won't. Only time will tell.

First impressions, nice little fixed blade. Love the multiple carry options with the sheath. Probably will become a regular user.

Expect Buck/Bos 154cm to be of excellent quality.

Just got this beauty yesterday...
